At noon today, our channel five newscast has just announced that the
Highland Park Police department is announcing a change in their policies
concerning the service of traffic warrants.. The announcement comes after
the department has received thousands of telephone calls, personal protests
and e-mails from all across the country. The arrest of Mrs. Harriet "Dolly"
Felton has brought the Highland Park Police Dept. to the attention of the
public.. Perhaps the silver lining in this cloud is that many will realize
that we are rapidly becoming (or already have become) a police state.. The
national public exposure has caused the public to become aware that the
arrest of this 97 year old, retired school teacher. handled as a criminal is
nothing short of a society that is no longer civilized.. Only after this
exposure, the Highland Park Police Dept. considered any changes in their
gestapo policies.. Our thanks should go out to this courageous little woman
for making obvious, what many have tried effectively to accomplish with
little effect..Her one and only exposure to law enforcement and the
resulting treatment of her has shown all of us and the powers who lead us,
just how deeply into depravity that we have allowed ourselves to sink..
Police states and authoritarian governments have always been America's
enemies.. We have engaged and opposed those types of governments, both
covertly and by open warfare, for the entire history of our nation..
Advocates for those policies and procedures are not the majority and must
not be considered "friendly" to the principles that a free society
represents.. Gratitude and gracious Thanks are owed to Mrs. Felton.. She is
continuing to contribute to us, even at the ripe old age of 97.. Monuments
such as she, should and must be revered, respected, protected and loved by
all of us, if we are to retain our self respect and integrity..
