Up, up and away

  1. Back in the mists of time C bought me a Flight Experience voucher
    (a half-hour lesson in a plane).

During my week off we went off to Abbas Air down south of Salisbury and
I went up in a Piper Warrior II. Great fun - especially as the weather
was a tad blowy that day..

Spent about 20 minutes at the controls - I did pretty much all the
flying apart from takeoff and landing. C bottled out of occupying the
rear seat in the plane too - her reasoning was along the lines of "if
he crashes at least I'll still be around to look after the pets".

    Women eh?

    Similar here, in a glider.
Surprised to learn thermals were more important than wind.
Terrific Christmas present, I had the voucher for 6 years before I
    redeemed it.

Compton Abbas is a great airfield.
I like their little museum tucked away.
It's also a terrific opportunity to practice EFATO's because it's on a sort
of plateau and you can drop well below where you just took off from. Gives
the people back on terra firma that a watching a bit of a scare though )

Gonna take it up and get you license?

  4. If a tad hard to find. Satnav thoroughly got its knickers in a twist..
Dunno. I might do microlighting - considerably cheaper and easier. I
    enjoyed the flying though.
