Well, that may be so in your experience and I'm not saying *all*
bikers a great people of course but I have been offered (and have
offered) more support on the road when on a bike, by bikers than I
have even done when in a car.[1]

That's not to say car drivers are any different just I have no
positive experiences with them to relay here.
Of course, but that wasn't the spirit of my comment.

    All the best ..

And you know that's not the case (all points).
    I thought I had?
<sigh> That statement was meant as a generalized comment about how
people with a common purpose might (ideally) react. Now it's obvious
here there are some people who have never actually offered me any
practical advise or help but further feel the need to jump in on every
of my threads with some bizarre side-comments. Now, I have no issues
with that as I slowly get to know who they are and ignore them (or
reply if I'm up for some fun). Look at this thread as an example. A
few decent answers to my actual request for help and all (this) crap
about nothing (who the **** cares if *I* enjoy or have fun riding a
    bike ffs).
I feel that although not the brightest button in the box and being
fairly thick skinned I have a reasonably good idea who the good guys
(n gals) are here. I stand by my justification on the 'mistake' I made
up there ^^ and anyone who doesn't like it can go **** themselves (<<
    is that ok?) ;-)
That's me I'm afraid Krusty (wanky) and if I had a formal / had sig I
guess I could put in a sig sep.

It is me, what I do and I feel no more offensive (to me anyway) than a
4+ line sig full of crap that I have to see over and over again.

    But just for you ;-)

It's text you add to every post, therefore it should have a sig sep so
people don't have to manually delete it everytime they reply.
But which you don't have to manually delete.

It's text I add to *most* posts yes. Ok, as I don't have (nor want) a
static sig, do I have to add a sig sep to my (manual) sig every time?
Do you also 'advise' all those who don't snip at all (potentially
leaving even more stuff for folk to have to snip / scroll through) out
    of interest?
    Point noted.

Should I leave the toilet seat up or down?

It is considered good manners to conform to the conventions of
the newsgroup to which you are posting.

One of the conventions of this newsgroup (and many others),
is that you can put signatures, witticisms, sign-off text...
whatever, at the bottom of your post. But it should be separated
from the main body of the post by a sig. separator, '-- '.

This allows the reader to automatically cut these texts from
the message and not see them (should s/he wish).

You may either continue to forge your own (soon to be derided
and lonely) path and piss off everyone else in the group.
Or you could show some nous and make a small change to keep
    everyone happy.

Tit education. It's a tough job, but Pip seems to be MIA.

    I know.
    I do.
I know. So, are you asking me to type that in every time then?
I suggest not *everyone* is so bothered and can cope with my paltry
    signoff.
By entering said sig sep manually every time you mean? And that's no
problem if that what you mean, I'm just making sure.
Here's another way. I don't bother saying 'All the best' and you know
who I am so that's another 5 letters you don't have to bother with.

Now please focus your attentions on those who regularly leave hundreds
of characters un snipped and sigs way in excess of the 4 lines.

We don't conform to demon.local's sig protocols here. Sigs can be as
long as anyone wants, as long as they use a working seperator.

Is there an FAQ or such that tells me what I can and can't post (here)
... and how I should do it please?

I already tried with this one Alex, not very long after he first
appeared. I've left your comment above in full because I
wholeheartedly agree with it and it resembles my effort toward the
same poster. IIRC I got a very similar response that Krusty got, also
    left above.

T<space>i<space>m seems to thing that he hasn't got a ".sig", because
he types it manually at the end of every one of his posts. Even
though it appears to be the same thing every time, he types it in,
because that's him, that's what he does. WTF he can't type a
<dashdashspacereturn> before he adds it is beyond me, and I gave up on
him in short order as I could see that trying to get a word in his ear
is a bit difficult when it appears that not only is he la la laahing
but there's a buttock and half a sphincter over each ear.

I see the point of .sigs as poster identifiers and when the subject
line of a post is a bit lengthy, the presence of a .sig saves me
having to maximise my message pane or thread to ID a poster if I can't
tell who it is from their style. I would assume that most regulars
don't read .sigs, they're only there to be skipped over - but they do
have a place and definitely a purpose. The simple addition of a
working separator to enable automagical snippage is essential, in my
view - and a strong indicator that the poster using it has a bit of
decency, a concern for their fellow, if you like, in that they don't
demand manual snipping of their little self-indulgent flourish at the
    end of every bloody post.

To sum up: .sigs are useful, but only with the addition of a working
separator - the omission of which is a clear indicator that the poster
is a pillock, as accurate as the use of a non-existent email address
    in the headers.

So Pip, this is your crusade is it, sig seps? Don't get me wrong, I
know your intentions are good and I thank you for your efforts but is
this really that important to you?

Me, I don't really give a **** as long as I can read what the poster
has written. To me the most important point is helping each other with
    motorcycle issues not punctuation etc.

As for Alex, unless he also posts under another name I can't see any
sign of him actually helping me so I'd be very happy to be in his kill
file (saves him having to even see my posts let alone be bothered by
    them).

So, you do sig seps, who netcops the OT posts with no OT marking in
the header, or the 1000 words left unsnipped with a 1 line reply, or
are they ok if you are in the right club?

p.s. Note, I've left my 'sig' off for you.

Oh Andy, remember you had an off day a while back and were being
helpful to me? You mentioned tyres and the GPz 550 having a good
selection at the time (sorry to bring MY thread back to motorcycles
rather than whining about my lack of sig sep). ;-)

Is that still the case do you know (tyres > 550) or have they now
become more difficult to get a decent range to suit?

Pip generally likes people to post in a way that makes it easy for
everyone else to read. It's a thankless task, but one which is
    (quietly) much appreciated.
This is a high volume newsgroup. To keep up with it, it helps if
people post in a readable manner.
You've rather missed the point of this newsgroup. It's really not
    much to do with motorcycles.

You arrogant twat. You really have missed the point of ukrm, or usenet
in general, if you think you can claim ownership of a thread like
    that.

So why do some posters put OT (as is the convention, elsewhere at
    least) and others not?
    Your call.
Bear, why the **** are you even bothering to drag this out. All I
wanted was advice re the Unitrack. I didn't ask to be dragged off
topic but I tried to answer what were possibly flippant questions
honestly and openly. That drew even more crap and I have now learnt a
    lesson.
