Nice Supermono. What material are the forks made of in the last couple of
    images?

  4. The legs are made of 50mm dia. carbon tubes with a 3mm wall thickness
sourced from www.compositespars.com They're incredibly stiff. Their short
length helps here too. The axle/caliper clamps are bonded to the carbon
tubes with an adhesive called Hysol EA9394. To be sure of the bond strength
we lifted a 2 tonne concrete block with a sample piece and then asked the
crane operator to jerk the load up and and down to really load it up. There
was no visible degradation of the bond so we're confident it'll hold up to
bike racing. Not particularly scientific I know but confidence inspiring
    none the less.

  5. Going with a hotted up TL1000R motor this time around. Should be fun!

  8. Really? Don't I recall something about the smaller airbox actually
resulting in a few _less_ hp than the TLR???

Nope, there's Italian ponies and Japanese ponies, it comes with the
    Italian ones now :)

It is actually up 4 HP IIRC (1) -Suzuki report crank HP, Cagiva Rear
wheel HP, but when you compare the dyno charts the wogs have managed to
squeeze an extra couple of ponies and some extra torque comparing stock
with stock. They changed the cams, the exhaust and the efi again IIRC,
the focus was on torque improvement though. When you swap to aftermarket
pipes and a power commander you can get the same peak HP out of both (up
about 10 on stock(2)) but with more torque and a bit lower in the rev
    range on the raptor.

The lower gearing is a far more noticeable in the real world

    JL
    (1) Like that makes much difference
    (2) which mine isn't 'cos it needs dyno tuning I'm running a map off the
PC website which is too rich

  11. My brother, I just watch and drool!! He's a machinist by trade and does all
his own CAD design work and CNC machining. Having worked in that environment
for years you pick up all the other skills like welding, sheetmetal work,
composite fabrication etc. I really must put a comprehensive site together
for him to really show off some the bits and pieces he has made over the
years. He helped me a lot with my hybrid
http://www.thumperpage.com/articles/XRG660.html which is nowhere near s
    trick as a custom chassis.

  12. Whereabouts are you from? We're in Western Sydney. If you're nearby you're
welcome to drop in and have a look. Reading Tony's Book
http://www.tonyfoale.com/ is a great start. Also have a look at Michael
Moore's Eurospares site http://www.eurospares.com/ for lots of good info and
links to the mc-chassis design e-mail list where the likes of Ian Drysdale
and other like minded souls hang out.

What's the frame on the TL1000S?
They were a "deltabox" chassis and alloy swingarm standard weren't they?
That one looks a bit Ducati-like (and that swingarm LOOKS very flimsy!)

Deltabox is a Yamaha thing, dude... the TL-S runs an aluminium-tube
trellis main beams with castings for the headstock and rear endplates
Yup. Essentially the same unit as contemporary GSX-R600's
You thought so, too, huh... notice, though, the cross-members between
the overbrace and the arms themselves. That'll be helping matters a bit.

Yeah I know but Yamaha pretty-much pioneered the alloy beam frame so old
refuse-to-acknowledge-anything-is-original buggers like me refer to that
style of frame as a "deltabox" (with quotation marks around it so that
people know we're not being literal).
    ~
Ahh yes. That style carried on to the SVs too.....
    ~
I'm sure that with Reynolds 531 (or whatever the "gun" [not a real gun, IK]
tubing is) and good design (which this one appears to have) and manufacture
a light tube swingarm could be quite strong.

  19. The frame is a standard(ish) trellis format of his own design and
manufacture. The photo doesn't clearly show it but the tubes and
bracing of the swingarm is substantial. My brother ain't the fastest
rider around but he can't make it misbehave.

  20. The completed TL powered bike was due to feature in Streetbike but
never made it for various reasons. It's currently being stripped down
after a hard but reliable racing season to check things over for wear
and tear. So far so good, only one minor crack on a radiator mount
bracket. When rebuilt it's off to the dyno to sort out a new ECU put
    together by Cliff Jeffries
    http://www.cajinnovations.com/MyECU/latest.htm which shows promise of
being better than the current stock ECU and Power Commander set-up. The
new Hossack derived bike will definitely make it to press, I'll insist!
