I have mixed feelings have used completely illegal bikes on the road many
times. Perhaps it could be modified to "also wearing Kappa shell suits".

Nah, bollox to that. Crush 'em and then there are less cars on the
road. In fact, I'd crush all cars and only have bikes on the road. :)

BBC News in "quality quote" shocker again:

The Times reported that uninsured drivers were more likely to drive
carelessly, cause crashes and be involved with other criminal activity.

Mr Howard agreed with such a conclusion.

"Even when you have as innocuous a crime as parking in a disabled bay,
    the
people who are inclined to commit that sort of crime are the people with
    long criminal records. "

If someone steals my car and is caught driving it,
he is presumably uninsured so it will be crushed.

Or does it only apply to the owner or registered keeper?
If so, will pikeys sell their cars to the kids or grannies?

I should imagine it isn't exactly immediate, but the car is taken and
impounded first (also one would assume that you'd have reported the car as
    stolen).

I can see that not be able to spell or read would be a qualifying
    disability.

If you're *really* not insured, then I actually don't have a problem
    with that either.

If you have, I suggest you take it up with your insurance company.

    Or fit a legal can.

The more cars taken off the roads the better imho, selling them is not
    the way forward.

Except it doesn't. My insurers (Highway) are well aware of the race
can on my Bandit, and don't give a monkeys whether it's legal or not,
just so long as I've told them it's on there.

My insurers asked me if the can was marked 'not for road use', which
infact it wasn't. That's all they seemed worried about.

Mine were interested in whether it was CE marked and whether it enhnced
    performance.

I advised them that it had the "appropriate" sticker on it, and I didn't
have a clue about the performance "it's a fucking CB500, ferchrissakes".

They seemed okay with this response.
