They certainly worked for me on the backroads I was doing - though I'm not
entirely sure whether or not an 014 would have worked just as well.

And the bike still had it's fair share of 'interesting' moments on
sand/gravel etc - though I'm getting used to these as part of the 'fun' -
it's just something the GSX-R never did.

Didn't drop it once though :)

Krusty emerged from their own little world to say
I'm also a fan of Metzeler Tourances. Although, their Enduro4 work almost
    as well.

If you want to go off road then use Continental TKC80. They work very well
on asphalt too, just don't last very long.

I was thinking about BT020s myself. Off-road, not likely on that great
    lump.

I presume that moves the focus slightly towards roads as I *thought* their
marketing had "Battlexxxx" as the road orientated tyres

My Trailwings (2k on them) seem to be wearing okay at the moment [1]so
hopefully I won't have to find out too soon :)

[1] I had seen internet posts about <3k use out of them, which I found
rather alarming all things considered :)

Thanks for all the help i got.

In the end I bought the Bridgestone BT014's front & rear.

Got them fitted yesterday and after a bit of scrubbing in - I have had
a blast on them today. I had the bike seviced at the same time and
everything is really good on it, plus the weather was nice (hot in my
    leath's)

I'm not sure. The Trailwing is - like most of them - pretty firmly road
oriented. Given that they've just made 020s available I don't think
they'd intend to make a tyre *less* suitable for off-road than it already
is. I suspect it's more a desire to have a bit of standardisation in
their branding, and a certain lack of imagination.
Oh, sure: they should be good for 6,000 miles. I can't understand how
anyone could get less than 3,000: that's ridiculous.

Well that's just it - that's the only way I could see it happening - you'd
have to ride like a ham fisted ****.

Dunno about the Tiger, but the delivery on the DL can be made to be fairly
brutal and I can see how it *could* shred a tyre - but it's also just fine
at powering smoothly out of bends and the like.

Anyway, as Porl mentioned, I'm poor [1] therefore trying to eek out the
    mileage a bit :)

I tend to accelerate quite hard most of the time, 'cause it's fun.

On reflection, if one were riding it very hard on twisty roads and
spinning up the rear all the time that might do it, particularly if one
    had too low a pressure.
