The date will be Saturday 7 May 2010. According to Nev this is a few days
after the new moon, and he'll bring his new "computerized telescope with
127mm Matsutov-Cassegrain optics"[1] with him. Please mark your calendars.

In short, the Unaugural is an annual gathering of aus.moto people in a
paddock on my farmlet near Tarago, NSW. Weather permitting, we have a
bonfire of sufficient size to provide a reasonable simulation of
Armageddon. There is overnight camping, awards for various
achievements (such as longest distance travelled to attend), and much
drinking of alcohol and telling of lies.

Think of it as the best parts of fishing, once one gets rid of all the
useless folderol of lines, hooks, boats, bait and water. (And fish).

Hoping to see some familiar faces, and some new ones, in 2011!

[1] Which should be substantially superior to the telescope I asked Tim C
to set up for me last year.

  4. Really? And as a schoolteacher, what mark did you give this totally
    fictitious date?

    Correction:

The date will be Saturday 7 May **2011**.

We apologise for the inconvenience. The error occurred because BT is an
incompetent suck who repeatedly recycles old posts.

*rolling eyes* As a schoolteacher, I took the liberty of giving BTH the
benefit of the doubt, because I was reasonably sure I knew what he meant.
Honestly, if I leapt on every tiny error that you pedantic buggers do, I
    would go insane!!! :p

    betty, who has just marked
a million exams, and is busy
    proofreading a bazillion

  7. So will the ground be a little softer, resulting in reduced probability of
    lever damage?

I won't be taking the SV on that bloody road again - will go for either the
postie bike or something with 4 wheels. <cluck cluck>

5 months is plenty of time for the rain to stop falling again...

If we had held the Unaugural yesterday, the only dry bit of ground would
    have been underneath the fire!

The soil is very sandy, and it's so saturated right now (over 100mm of
rain in a week) that it's got the consistency of pudding.

That can only do wonders for the off road experience of some of the deeper
gravel and wash board corrugations in the known universe.

I suppose it saves you having to go back of Bourke for the true blue Aussie
    "road" concept.

Have you invited Oprah to do a show from there?

    Best, Andrew

I must admit I'm baffled as to why she's getting the breathless "Royal
Tour" tabloid-style coverage from every media outlet. I can only assume
that a significant number of my fellow citizens give a stuff...

  14. All the ones I have spoken to in your area don't give a damn and say she
shouldn't have come here in the first place

More give a stuff about her than seem to give a stuff about whether an
Australian citizen can and should be arrested for a non-crime and
slandered by the prime minister, judging from crowd numbers.

I was wondering about all the hoohah about her, then, on the ABC news, I
saw a report on her visit, and now know what is going on.

Julia Guilard found someone to walk beside whose bum is bigger than
    hers! ;-)

Hey, Howard got a lot of people to believe that David Hicks was a terrorist
and we locked him up for a year even though he had committed no crime in
    Australian law.

Just read David's book. I think that in the near future Hicks is going to
sue the Oz Government and win.
