Ulysses v. Rebels

Apparently there was an article in the Canberra Times today about how
the Rebels OMC had bees in their helmets about how some of the Ulysses
members wore their club logo on their backs (evidently there is a rule
somewhere that says only OMCs can do that).

I went to the Canberra Times website for the article but it *appears*
that it's been removed from their database.

    Anybody know anything about this?

I think these outlaws give us all a bad name..

and for some reason the average simpleton thinks that all people who ride
    bikes are these gangs.

and they think they are better than everybody else, dress scarily to
indimidate people and steal, break the law, as general outlaws do.

and for some reason if you offend them, they beat you up, and expect great
    gifts given to them

like when a bloke on a custom harly overtook one of them at the lights, both
his bike, and his porshe went missing and he lost a lot of blood nor would
    he speak to police...

  3. I find this alot with the canberra times, their website rearly is indicitive
    of the actual paper.
Id say nothing fishy is going on, just that they lack general organisation.

  4. nobody notices them usually
the general public is an idiot
    mmmm yeah *looks up 'outlaw'*
most ppl, if offended, demand some recompense
    another urban leg end

maaaaaaaate...i have associated with 'various sorts' while riding all
sorts of jappers and HD...its all in the attitude

mined ewe, in respect of their culture, one would not wear a back
patch...which is an indication of respect gained an stuff in that world

If the general rider had to race 4 years of WSB to wear full leathers,
would YOU, having done that, respect someone who had gone to the shop
that day and bought a set

OR would you demand that they remove the leathers until they had done 4
yrs of racing to prove their worthiness?

Its just another status symbol...but in this case the 'owners' of that
symbol are insisting that age is not a sufficient requirement to allow
    automatic procurement

one instead wears the eureka flag symbol, which says 'yeah good onyer,
but i'll see yer bike an yer missus an yer homebrew, and if thats good
    enough we'll talk...and after a bit I might call u mate.

  5. F*ck those knuckle dragging c*nts who are only tough in gangs. This is a
free country last ime I looked. Sure if they were wearing a Rebels badge I
could see them being pissed off. But they do not own the fucking town.

We need to stand up to these tossers.

    So, why have rockers?

Seems to me that the bods who want to wear rockers are Hells Accountants
types, they want the look without doing the work.

If you want to stand up to them, do it. You want to wear a patch, then
    take the consequences. Easy.

I don't have much time for patch clubs as a concept, but neither can I
see the point of pretending to be one.

    I'd expect so.

I find that the young ones ignore me and look straight ahead, the older
    ones nod as per usual.

Except when I'm riding the Baby Beemer. On a previous commute, I would
often end up at the lights next to a Hells Angel who ignored the Guzzi
very pointedly, but said "nice bike" about the 250...

Me, I considered him a bit silly for that, but it was no skin off my
    nose either way.

I have seen patch wearers get pissed off at people who want to trade on
    their reputation.

The days of non-riders thinking all riders are Evil Bikies are long
gone. I've been refused entry to pubs, I've been refused entry to
caravan parks, used to be you couldn't get into the Governor Hindmarsh
hotel wearing motorcycle kit. That was long ago, haven't heard of
anyone having that problem for years.

Which "us" are you refering to?
I dunno about that. I agree that lots of folk have asked me if I rode a
Harley, but only folk who hadn't seen me with any of my bikes.

The EPA certainly seem to be able to tell the diference, and only seem
to pull over U.C. wannabes rather than the real 1%ers. ;-)
OK, this is the bit I don't understand. Many of the cops that I know
will list all of the illegal stuff that the bikies do. How come nobody
seems to do anything about it?
North Sydney cop shop, in the '70's had a very similar reputation.
While I'm prepared to believe that there has been an improvement, I
still suspect it happens with the cops too.

This whole patches and rockers thing has been discussed to death over
    many years within the U.C.

It has always been a rule of the U.C. that the Old Bloke patch can not
be coloured in. Since the U.C. control that logo, they are entitled to
    that rule.

The "rockers" have also been "discouraged". The U.C. doesn't actually
have the power to rule against them.

The U.C. members who have ignored this have made their decision and now
may have to face the consequences of it. <shrug>

Colouring in matters? (It'd look odd coloured in anyway)

    Apparently. <shrug>

The Old Bloke is some kinda legal property of the U.C., similar to the
Olympic Rings, and it is supposed to be just white on black, or possibly
    dark blue.

I dunno what bits anyone would want to colour in, but, if it makes them
happy, it isn't going to offend me.

It was still operating on the same principles in the mid nineties.
I've not been in any hurry to go back for a more recent update.

Curved bars over and under the logo.

    Top bar normally club name.
Lower bar location of club. Or in some cases title or the wod
    Prospect.

Makes it a three piece patch. 3 piece patch signify it's a "outlaw"
    club.
1 piece patch means you ain't.

It's what the Rebels have an issue with, people wearing the 3 piece
    patch.

Me too. The tendency these days is to make special deals to
entice the motorcycle-travelling public, as often mentioned
    here (e.g. Bethanga).

Trust me, it's a crap newspaper and a crap website.

I'm not into patches, "rockers", patch wearers, or patch
clubs, or their elaborate rule-based mythologies, but I'm OK
with people who are (if they are OK with people who aren't).
However much I try, I can't see the point of faking any of
that, and deliberately antagonising the 1%ers, who generally
play for keeps; when the Hells Hairdressers bump into real
outlaws, it often ends in tears.

A couple of the pubs in the city have refused me entry when I've been
wearing bike boots. One said I could come in if I put my jeans over
    them.

Granted I don't think it had anything to do with anti-bike sentiments,
more like yuppie place, must wear leather shoes.

Feel free. Wear the rockers and front up to the Rebels clubhouse and have
your say. Being tough in here isn't going to achieve anything, is it?
