UKRM Trackday?

And[1] add to the end "under the guidance of professionals. There will
be marshals there and police and everything"

[1] I learnt at school that sentences don't start with the word "and"
    but **** to that.

True but I'd not be worried about that, I'd not even think it. I know I
said I'd take the RB but that's not strictly true; I'd want to take the
R1 but until I'd seen the namby-pambyism of "I'll bin my bike" in yours
and others' posts, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind.

If you're that bothered why not just drop it on the way home and claim
on the insurance or buy a day's track insurance or something?

    Nervousness is a natural reaction.
I've been a track day training type thing at Cadwell Park. Loads of
people were way faster than me. I still enjoyed it and all I took was
the VFR. I would not describe myself as quick and I'd expect you can
hustle a bike along better than I can. I did find it beneficial but then
I did get some training on the day - I was much faster riding home and
my handling of corners was much better. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I only did the most basic of checks - it's all I'm capable of.

  4. What is it with folks telling people they must go on a track day? Yes,
it's an opportunity to ride like you can't on the road. I used to love
it. But there's no saying it's everybodys cup of tea. And it's very
    expensive.

    It's not compulsory.

  6. I remember doing that lots of times and only ever saw at most 1 or 2
turn up from around here (yourself included). The non-addicts generally
want to make a big deal of it and book 6 months in advance, whereas the
likes of you and I would usually book about a week ahead.

Yes so? He may end up hating it but if he never tries it he will never
    know will he?
    Who said that it was?

FYI, there is a small circuit some 70 miles south of Barcelona,
Calafat, with cheapo flights at Reus/Tarragona. Next to the beach and
    the Port Aventura resort.

Montmelo may be available, but renting it costs "la peau des fesses"
    (some 18.000 euros/day probably)

  10. A lot of people find it fun. I've seen you ride many times, and I think
you might find it boring on a road bike. No traffic, see?

But you still had the prebooking fears of being out of your depth etc.
Everybody reacts the same, unsure they want to before and certain they
    will again after.

I bit the bullet and did it, and loved it. I was lucky in as much as
mine was a spur of the moment decision, I had been putting off doing a
track day for years for the reasons you quote, and things got worse just
after I suffered the TIA. Once I'd said I was going to Donington I
couldn't back out really, and I'm glad I didn't. Despite everyone
telling me I was ok on a bike I never really believed them and lacked
confidence. After doing the track day I now know I'm not that bad. Doing
it was the highlight of last years motorcycling calendar for me, even
better than picking up the Gixer. It may not suit everyone, but they'll
    never know until they try.

    *boggle*

The last time there was a UKRM track day we were more-or-less all video'd by
Cit and/or Sorby (IIRC). There really wasn't anything to rip the piss out of
    - just lots of footage of people riding round on their bikes. We all knew
roughly where the camera was, but frankly, if knowing that there's a camera
is going to make you ride like a cock, I'd question the wisdom of doing a
    trackday at all.

We were essentially filmed for souvenir value rather than anything else, and
I'm glad (and quite grateful) that we were. Nobody from the circuit
    (Mallory) objected in the slightest

I did my first one on an old teapot (GSX600F). The only bike slower
than me was a pristine, not-to-be-damaged, FJ1200 with panniers.

    Huge fun - really!

  16. Yes, there fucking is. Crashing or (especially) being the slowest one
    out there.

    <Thinks>

I've always wanted to take the 400 Four on a a track day.....

Absolutely, on both counts imo. It's a great way of finding out you can
lean your bike over a damn site further than you ever thought possible.
It is bloody tiring though, if you're as unfit as I am.
It helps if you've got a rough idea of what tyre pressures to use
before you start. If you decide to do it, let me know your weight &
what tyres you've got fitted, & I'll ask a mate who knows these things.

You might want to crank the preload & damping up a bit too, but you can
fiddle with that between sessions if you feel the need.

Yeees, I think trailoring bikes to track days is a good idea. Enforces a
    nice slow sensible journey home!

I saw a nice one at Kirkistown. Bloke came off the track on his Kwak
1200. Leaving the site he gave it a big fistful, looped it, highsided
himself and put a hole in the 'cases.

Hmmm, in a similar vein I recall Pip, Elly, Loz, myself, Christo and
possibly others leaving an 'OSM and heading down a busy M1. Bikes white
lining cars on both sides simultaneously at up to twice the prevailing
traffic speed with the Gixxer cracking 160 several times.
