Dan- you must have missed it when Statto posted this at the beginning
    of the year:
    http://mousemat.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/calendar.pdf

yes- a ukrm calendar for 2006 does actually exist!

Kin egos you folks have is fucking unreal, really it is.

What Robbo proposed is a 20 minute video. If you have thirty bikes and
you have to tell tales other than going round corners, just how much
time do you think is going to be given over to you and your
contribution? 'Course this presumes you do anything worthy of
    contribution in the first place.

I think you'll find it's not the bike that's the problem.

  5. You seem to be suddenly suffering from a reappearance of teddy bear
syndrome except that it is not causing premature brake activation. It
seems the teddy bears are making you are so slow that Brian from the
Magic Roundabout would overtake you on the M1. Or I have been whooshed
    yet again!?

Just go on the trackday and ride your own ride in the correct group.
I've not done a proper trackday but I have taken the VFR round Cadwell
on one of those "get some training on a track" things. Most of the time
we were left to our devices once the instructor was content you weren't
a liability . ISTR that I possessed a wide grin for much of the day even
if loads of people were whizzing past me out of corners or on straights.

I think you might. Dan was saying that we all have bikes that are
capable of 20MPH more than his.

This is true. When Dan's on his bike...

    ;^)
I will, one day. Honest guv.

In the meantime, this year's plans include the Nurburgring and Pahnd
    Island. <VBEG>

I still think you'll get a bit of a shock the first time the video
camera comes out of its bag but we'll have to wait and see. I can't
see Robbo getting permission from the circuit operators in advance so
he'll either strike lucky or look a ****.

I've discounted you from the equation because you'll not be able to
get out of bed in time to get anywhere further than a roundabout at
    Tilbury.

None of this will have any meaning in the long term because I still
think it'll be the normal "I've booked a day at so and so circuit, who
    wants to come?"

Some people will miss the post, others will ask for confirmation of
the date 2 weeks after the event, others will want a list of who's
going before they decide to go themself and someone will want to
borrow a bike because their own one isn't suitable for the track. Then
you'll get the "why can't we have it near Wales?" post closely
followed by the "why can't it be in the North?" post. Add in the "is
it a noisy day?" and the "can I change groups after a while so I can
ride with all my mates?" and you're still only halfway there. Think
accommodation, petrol stations, sharing a van, who's blagging the
garages what tyres are the faster riders using. The list is endless.

The good thing is that Loz already knows this so won't try to herd
cats and the terminally clueless won't turn up.

You're dead right. For ease of access and a bit of a change from the
norm I'm looking at Mallory Park. It's fairly central for everyone on
the mainland to get to, they do full noise days there, there are goodish
facilities and I've never ridden round it. All good reasons imo.

Once I've found out what dates are being touted I'll see what organisers
are charging whatever for the full noise days then I'll post back here
and see what response I get. If the response is good then I'll contact
the organisers and ask for discount on a block booking. If they come up
trumps then I might as well take non-returnable 50% deposits. That
should sort the serious from the terminally stupid and the time-wasters.

If they don't like the venue, price or day then tough shit. I'll be
organising this along the same lines as B/EOSMs, in other words, if I
say that's where and when it is, then that's where and when it is.

    What date is it Loz?
Oh that clashes with this, can you change it?
What date is the track day Loz?
When did you post that on ukrm? You never said that!
What date is the track day Loz?
    Can I bring my scooter?
Can I wear non zip together clothing?
Will I have to go fast?
What date is the track day Loz?

    etc etc etc.

    Enjoy the herding!

If they are too stupid to read the posts, then I don't want them on the
same track as me, simple as that.

  13. That's as may be but you are not denying that the nonsensical posts /
endless questions will appear. You know what it's like.

And I'll ignore the stupid questions, just like I do when I post about
the B/EOSMs. Like I said, too stupid to read the posts, too stupid to
    share a track with me.

He doesn't need permission (sort of). It only becomes an issue if the
stuff is being recorded for broadcast purposes. Think about it for a
moment and you will realise that *every* **** has a camera these days
and want as much as they might the Circuit operators cannot stop them
    using them.

Granted that turning up with the Pro gear might attract attention but my
handycam is just a punters handycam and for ukrm purposes is just as
    good a tool.
Robbo doesn't stand a chance simply because he needs 4 or 5 cameras to
cover it adequately and ukrm won't turn out in those numbers to stand on
a corner in the pissing wet just to watch you lot make prats of
yourselves. So you don't have to worry about your soul being stolen.

    You are getting there.

No I shan't be going, not unless someone gags Bonwick and Robbo then
manages to DFV the video successfully in which case I will be a part of
    the Crew.

Getting out of bed at that time of day aside there is nothing that a
track day can teach me to help me with my ride. Unless and until they
start littering the tracks with roundabouts, traffic signals, WVM etc
the learning opportunities at a track day have little or no practical
purpose for me. Besides if I want to ride round in circles I can always
go and practice in Tescos car park.

    Others may feel differently.

Since I got one with a top speed of 125mph'ish.
Yes true, but I get to see more on my trips because I get to be so low
to the ground. Road patterns are very interesting. [1]

This also applies mainly on roads where there are corners. My memories
of bits of France are dead straight bits of boredom that require speeds
slighty faster than the Strom is capable of to make them interesting
    again.

And in this regard, everything except your Rice Burner has a higher top
whack (and is more capable of getting there and staying there) than the
    Strom.
You're going to do both of these at 60mph? :)

[1] due to the high CoG on the Strom excessive lean angles are not
easily achieved, therefore I probably have to have had to compensate in
another way. I'll await your observations with interest.

My preperation for the Donington track day in August consisted of
looking at the sorry state of my 2000 mile old rear tyre and looking to
see if there was enough oil in it before caning it up the M1 to
Derbyshire. When I got there I ended up dropping 3psi from both tyres
and knocking the compression and rebound damping up 3 clicks each at
    both ends, that was it.

I can see that that if there's training involved it could be useful as
well as enjoyable. What I was wodnering about was whether it was worth it
to simply go round on a bit of track without that guidance.

Oh yes, I did one last year and I fit into the 'slow as **** with an
unsuitable machine' category and it had me grinning for ages. Was it
beneficial to my road riding? probably not, but its a great experience
    nonetheless.
I rode there, thrashed it and rode home with no more than a quick tyre
    pressure check.
