  3. Not least to mention that NL doesn't have much in the way of good
riding. It's a pretty enough country, but it mostly looks the same all
over. They're also speeding Nazi's with long memories.

I suspect BE isn't much different until you get to the hilly bits that
    border France.

  5. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique,
A few years back we were on the French / Belgian border. You could tell
the instant you crossed into Belgique. The roads went to absolute
    ratshit.

Judging by the roads this weekend it hasn't taken the French long to
catch up on how to leave roads in shit condition.

They had their moments, didn't they? Good fun, though.

Ah yes, but I could break the speed with impunity.

On the road from Neuville to Ieper I noticed a distinct change in the
agricultural microeconomy. Cattle everywhere in Belbium and a distinct
    smell of bovine excrement.

Quite. On the way back on Sunday, I was happy to get on the Autoroute
to give my wrists, shoulders and teeth a rest.

Were you? This was the run, where we made the local bar(tender's)
holiday. He was about to shut when some loudmouthed bikers came in...

I don't think it was. The run where the most noticeable changes in
road surface occurred were when we were in Sedan and popped up into
the Ardennes. We've done Sedan twice and both times it's been a case
of thrashing around on the French roads until you cross the border and
it all gets a bit shitty.

We even did the same roads when the select few went to Verdun for a
long weekend and my recently purchased 10R showed up its out of the
    box suspension issues.

Is this some kind of endorsement of the public-private partnership which
produces nice smooth autoroutes, distinct from the publicly funded
national, departmental and communal roads? Or what?

Around here, I can confirm that winter has a distict effect on the D
roads and the communal roads, and there isn't much to choose between
socialists and gaullists when it comes to filling on the holes, putting
the roads back when they fall off the hill, and stopping or (in a recent
unfortunate incident) failing to stop rocks squashing passing motorists.
