Two things to say: 1. Looks absolutely breathtaking 2. Makes no sense whatsoever
It's Gilliam. I just hope that Paloma Faith isn't as annoying as she usually appears to be. ....and three replacement actors to cover the role left open by Ledger <boggle>
Sure, and I'm usually something of a fan. I seem to be about the only person who really likes Baron Munchhausen (so much so that I bought it on Bluray). Mind you, everyone else seemed to love The Fisher King, which I didn't like at all. I had no idea who she was until I saw her interviewed on Jools Holland, and she mentioned it. She only plays a small part, and seems to do it competently enough. That's done quite well, actually, tho I can't help but think that it must have had a significant effect on the shape of the story.
Have you seen Tideland? I think it came out with very little publicity so you may have missed it. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." Cardinal Bellarmine
I did miss it indeed - I was just looking at the IMDB entry for Gilliam, and saw it there. It must have had almost no publicity. Have you seen it? Whadyareckon?
I've seen it - not bad, but not a film I'd want to watch again. Hi-jacking Champ's thread a bit, and because I'd be interested in your opinion of them, if you've seen them: I saw two filmed-on-handheld-cameras-only movies in the last couple of months, and thought they were fantastic (unlike Cloverfield, which I hated). The two in question were the Spanish film "REC" and the French film "Eden Log". Seen 'em? I also saw "Let the Right One In" which I also though was fantastic, though apparently the Americans are going to re-make it (and probably bollocks it up).
I saw it a couple of nights ago. It's much, much darker than any other Gilliam film I've seen. What's truly bizarre about it is that the darkness comes from the pure innocence of the two main characters. It's an unusual film (surprise, surprise), but if you're a Gilliam fan then you may find that it's a lost gem. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." I've seen REC but not Eden Log, although it's on the list of films to see. I thought REC was really rather good. The first ten minutes didn't bode well, but from that point on it really takes off. What's really impressive is that it was genuinely filmed on a prosumer camcorder. The Hollywood version, that had finished filming before REC even made it onto DVD in the UK, is an almost shot-for-shot remake that somehow still completely fails to recreate the atmosphere of the original. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." Okay, now it goes to the top of the list. Really? <Google> Hmm, the reviews are pretty bad. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." Watched it last night. It looked great, and I love it when film makers don't feel the need to spoon-feed the story to the audience. It's certainly an unusual sci/fi film and one I'd happily recommend. The only thing I thought let it down was the last two minutes. In fact, the exact same problem Dante 01 (Marc Caro's film, if you haven't seen it) suffers from - thoroughly stunning looking, with a story that has you guessing all the way to the end, that's ultimately let down by what appears to be a 'we've run out of money/ideas and need to finish it now anyway' ending. Having said that, I still enjoyed both films, with Eden Log definitely being the better of the two. -- Veggie Dave http://www.iq18films.co.uk "To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." we're not children after all. I thought that straight after; but after a week, it was playing on my mind, and I thought the ending worked.
I liked it a lot and the pythonesque bits made me laugh. Wasn't at all sure about Cole at the outset however I was sold on her by the conclusion. Troyer did a good job I thought, although TBF he is always "himself" IYSWIM. WTF did he end up boning Shrider, well done that mutant. Waits was clearly enjoying himself!
