Nothing new here apart from a mailing list that anybody interested in
    going should subscribe to.

Just send an email with a valid return address to Elefantentreffen at
    my surname.me.uk

Anyone who wants to go can google for the dates and venue because if
you can't find out stuff like that for yourself then you really
    shouldn't be going.

So far the only people who've said they're guaranteed (ha) to be
going are myself, Burnt, Platy, Sweller, Donald and Mike Carley. Bikes
being used are varied and may yet subject to prior
    crashing/breakdowns.

I plan to head over on the Thursday before the event taking 2 days to
get there, get absolutely slaughtered on the Friday evening then all
day Saturday and set off for home sometime on the Sunday with the
intention of getting back on the Monday night. I might vary this
slightly by getting a Wednesday evening late crossing and then stop in
Calais ready for a Thursday morning flyer.

Get yourself on the list or regret it later. It'll be a laugh because
we'll have solos, sidecars, alcohol and big fires.

  2. Uf! 2274 km each way. Might give that one a miss.

Wednesday night would be good - it's what the Frankfurt runners did. Any
excuse for a bit of drink driving on foreign mornings.

That's my take on it. We used the tunnel and then stopped in the Ibis
near the tunnel terminal when we did Chimay and it worked out well.
They keep the bar open late so a bit of beer guzzling followed by a
few cups of coffee in the morning makes for an easier start than
setting off at 5am then arsing about with ferries.

Hmmm, I wonder if I could do that and then go skiing..... how much ski
gear can someone wear *and* ride a bike :)

TNT your ski gear to its final destination then ride over after the
Elefantentreffen. You know you want to do it.

    OK, sounds like a plan.

Other alternative is to take the ferry from Harwich to the
Hook/Rotterdam/whatever runs. Maybe a bit longer but I like sleeping on
    boats.

Pretty much everything bar the skis, I'd have thought. Then again,
attaching them as outriggers may help anyway if the weather's
    particularly bad...

    Under serious consideration.
    Not the 750SS though :)

    Cost maybe a factor...

    £38 rtn Dover Calais
    £120 rtn Harwich Hook
    (solo machine, basic cabin)

....but we've got to add on fuel, lodgings and time on the Dover Calais
option. It's only about 20 miles extra Hove - Harwich compared to Hove -
Dover. Probably not that different for you and Platy, certainly easier
    for Donald and Bonwick.

If I take an MZ I've got to consider two-stroke and at 33:1 it's a small
    refinery we're considering.

The only slight issue with going through Harwich is that I'll have to
go back to work on the Tuesday so I'll have to book single out and
then a single back from Calais. Not a big deal really.
Harwich isn't a bad run from our place and it's a night on the piss if
    nothing else.
Use one of the support vehicles as an oil tanker.

What are these new fangled measurements you are using ?

I reckon this venture is best measured by at least a sagan units of alcohol.

I prefer to measure it in hangovers but the end result is the same.

  15. Somewhat less hangovers for you though. And you know me. Every trackday
I ever did I was still pissed from the night before.

Oh the risks all you fellows took...
