    It's psychological. You perform best at something when you are in the
    same mental state as when you learnt it. Most people learn to play
    pool while slightly drunk[1]. in a pub, therefore they play best in
    that situation. The opposite applies when you get a player who has
    learnt sober in a club. They generally play worse when slightly
    drunk.
