The only brass band music I have is of Mat Tab's band.

I do have a CD of bagpipe music, though...

I've never really got into jazz, but I've always liked blues, even when
I was still in my late teens. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad
    sign.

Heh, don't use that. I chuck everything I like the look of into the
basker, then decide what I don't want. I wanted it all...

    stop it!!!

You are a very bad influence Ben.
I think I saw that recommended on BBC's Click Online programme. I've
just had a go at it and I have to say that the links are remarkably good
    - it was like looking at my record collection on the screen.

I quite like some Brass Band music, although I don't actually have any CDs
or anything. I have got "Brassed Off" on DVD, though.
Ah! Now you're talking. What sort of pipes, though? Northumbrian small
pipes are my favourite, but they're all good. I haven't got any
CDs/records specifically of bag pipes but I have got lots which include
some bag pipe music, of variouus kinds.

  8. [buying lots on amazon]
Well I have never ordered anything from Amazon and given the dangerous
potential outlined above I am not going to. I actually like going to
bookshops and record shops anyway - much nicer than clicking on a
website. I am also spoilt for choice with my office being on Charing
    Cross Road.
Well I have some bits and bobs of jazz and blues. I used to do my school
homework on a Sunday evening listening to the Top 40 then Annie
Nightingale and then Alexis Corner when they all used to be on Radio
One. A wonderful musical melange. I don't think I have brass band music
but I do have some Big Band music from the 40s - this can be rather
    splendid too.

My current distraction is the amazing range of soul music that Norman
Jay plays. There are three CD compilations full of joyous happy music
and I have just found his show on BBC Radio London which is on BBC Radio
Player too. Some of the Northern Soul stuff that Stuart Maconie has
featured on Radio 2 is also wonderful but then I am a big fan of dance /
    soul type music.

You seem to have learnt how to do the mellowing bit very well. Perhaps
one day I shall learn too.

I think it's quite impressive. I'd like to be able to put in two
different people and see how their linked - like x degrees of
    separation.

Bugger, I hadn't realised that there was a programme that played this
type of stuff. I was brought up on a diet of Northern Soul and suchlike
stuff, quite a few of the lads round here were. I used to hitch-hike
with 2 mates from Bedford to Wigan when I was 14/15, to go to the Casino
    and Anniversary[1] clubs.

[1] I think it was called this, it's been nearly 30 years since then

might provide some entertainment for you. I'll see if I can find the
Radio 2 link - it was a distinct series of programmes that I dipped in
    and out of.

Don't suppose you've been keeping an eye on BBC FOUR of late? They've
started running a 7-part Scorsese documentary series on the blues and
    it ain't bad at all.

First one was on last night about 11pm, but no doubt they'll repeat
each one a couple of hundred times in a digital tv stylee.

I only get normal plain old analogue telly down here[1]. I could put
a dish up if I didn't tell anyone but am not really that arsed, given
the amount of broadcast stuff that I watch.

    [1] Not even Channel 5.

Yes, really. I thing we use a different transmitter. I did try
setting up our freeview box when we moved without luck.

    <FX: checks>

FREEVIEW doesn’t cover your area for the postcode TN31 XXX.

Although we have improved the signal within the existing coverage,
we’re sorry that FREEVIEW is not currently available in your area.

Ah, well. It'll happen soon, I imagine.

Well, the fact that it's "Flower of Scotland" by the band of the Royal
Scots Dragoon Guards might be a bit of a giveaway.

Could be good, but Scottish pipes are really an out-door instrument:
they're very loud. Northumbrian small pipes are a chamber instrument.

TBH, I didn't know anything about the different types. I do now.
