Exactly, sneaking ideas under the fence as per the first paragraph.
But it then plants the seed that can lead to further exploration.
But accurate IME, I think of it more as a graphic novel view on
    religion :)
No comment on the paganism? The insights into the triple goddess are
    hilarious *and* deep.
But Good Omens is better than any of them and the Sandman series is
    better than Good Omens.

At least partly due to him flogging the same dead jokes, again and again,
until they ceased to be funny. Reading the same gags in every book
gets tiresome, and the plots were getting really contrived.

I couldn't help but think that with the AFPCons and adulation he'd got
stuck in a rut and not noticed his writing had gone waaaay downhill.

And tastes change - the first time I read the Death-in-a-bar scene in
Mort I was in tears, last time I tried reading it it didn't even
    raise a smile.

The Discworld books are on a par with Potter, give or take a few gags.

So, what you're saying, right, is "Pratchett's dead funny when someone
    else is helping him" ?

Good lord, you _are_ a lady of good taste and breeding.

Have you tried any of his non-Sandman stuff?

I don't think Gaiman is particularly funny ... off the top of my head I
can't think of anything I've read by him that has raised a chuckle, but he
    is a very good writer.

Mined ewe, I don't find Pratchett LOL funny that often either, although the
last one of his I read (Monstrous Regiment) did make me laugh a couple of
    times.

Yeah, an a cheap (£70) camera.

I did think I should stop, when it reached £100, then I added the
camera, then I though £200 would be ok. Then I couldn't decide, so I
thought I'll chuck it all in the basket and decide once I'd chosen
everything, then I couldn't bare to remove any.

Fucking shitloads for me, mate. For Paul, however, at the height of
    his music-buying days ...

  14. I've never spent that much on books or, to pick up on your other post,
music in one go. I have cut back on my music purchases of late because
there is so little new stuff that is of any value. I must be getting
    old.

! I've got roughly the same amount in my basket at amazon.com but I'm
waiting to see if my modest order (80USD) makes it to me through the
    American Forces PO.

Speaking of which, Matt, send me an email. ben at benblaney dot co dot

    Then get old stuff.

Bill Evans, arguably a co-writer of Kind of Blue:

A really good book about him:

A book about the making of Kind of Blue:

    Coltrane's masterpiece.

Colloboration between Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans:

Oh, and Paul - you especially might find this handy, though I suspect
you have something similar in your head:

TBH, I don't think that many (normal/ordinary/working) people have. I
think it is a high point in conspicuous consumption and that Matt was
well justified in mentioning it and that he should learn from it.
Matt should not be so easily led, should not be indecisive, should
remain in control at all times and should turn off that fucking
    One-Click ordering.
Move sideways, Brother Paul. There is a wealth of timeless Blues and
Jazz awaiting you, now that you are self-evidently of an age to
appreciate it. Think of it not as simply ageing, but mellowing into a
stage where you gain a greater appreciation of life. If you start
buying Brass Band music mind, you're fucked.
