It's a nice pint, definitely. I like the Blonde too.

I'm going 'Up West' with a couple of mates tomorrow night, but since I
didn't choose the venue(s), I fear that I won't be seeing a lot of ale.

Hook Norton Brewery's "Double Stout" - fucking lovely.

Not quite as nice as Young's "Double Chocolate" but at least my local
Sainos actually stocks the Hook Norton stuff.

Oh, and in case this wasn't quite southern pansy foo-foo enough for
you, I am also quite partial to Fruli Strawberry
    (http://www.frulibeer.com/)

Flavoured[1] ale: it's just wrong, wrong, wrong!

[1] i.e. with something other than hops

I think we need to have a Constitution that includes remaining open
minded, discriminating against only those "Queers of the Drinking
    World". Habitual lager drinkers.

Double Choc and Fruli are both jolly nice.

    Sounds nice.
About 1/3rd of a mile from my front door is: www.molesbrewery.com I will be
placing my order later next week. Their christmas ale, Moel Moel and another
'pin of Rucking Mole should do until New Year. Schluuurp.

I went to a beer festival the other week (the pub next to St Deny's
railway station) and most of the beers on the menu were ones with stunt
flavouring. If the description mentioned "fruity" it tasted like ribena,
etc. Very horrible and I shall be more cautious in future I think.

Must check in mine. I'm quite partial to a drop of sump oil hued beer
myself. Can't find the Young's on beermad. Was it a victim of the take
    over by Wells?

Unfortunately, IMO, Bullmastiff no long brew their 'Ebony'. For
seriously dark beer, without actually being a 'stout', Sarah Hughes Ruby
Mild 6.0% ABV takes some beating. I'm only a few (but too many to walk)
    miles from the brewery tap.

no - it's still extant - just not available in any supermarket near
me, though can still be had in the likes of The Paternoster.

Waitrose also sell the Hook Norton Double Stout, if that's more
    convenient for you than Sainsburys.
