the headline on the front cover of the Mail[1] today reads: "The Most
Idiotic Police Chief in Britain" accompanied by a picture of Brunstrom
in a flouro jacket. Not on his road policies this time - he's got
himself into trouble regarding drugs this time

[1] I didn't buy it, someone left a copy on a table in the staff
    kitchen.

While he is the fuckwit to which all other fuckwits aspire I do think he's
right on this one. Probably one of them flukes.

That and, obviously, nobody wants to agree with the Daily Mail on anything.

However, while we're on them, how about this - real or Mail photoshopped
    hysteria?

Oh, and read the third comment, from James of London - nothing to do with
the story, but he's really found his newspaper.

There's another story on there about Rooney's mrs having a new 80 grand
Overfinch Rangie. Adam of Leeds's main concern? "I wonder how much the
insurance on THAT is for a 21 year old?"

It's still not as good as the comments on the Sun though.

    (eg.
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/woman/real_life/article638308.ece,
the man with a giant tumour on his face, to which Leemello says "Within
Europe only PORTUGAL have cases like this one. Doctors are no doctors
here/they are GODS only intersted in making money/no HUMAN FEELINGS AT
ALL/If you have no money you are condammned to be trated worse than a
dog.PORTUGAL is still in the FOURTH WORLD NOT EVEN IN THE THIRD
    ONE!!!!!!"

    Pure poetry.)

So you've got about as much experience of drugs as him then?

Are you talking about their dangers or the issue of legalising them?

I've no idea of the relative dangers of different drugs, legal and illegal,
other than knowing that some of them kill people, I just find it hard to
work out why the government should stop people doing for fun things which
might be harmful to their health.

Give 'em a glossy safety leaflet, slap some tax on and let them buy what
    they damn well want.

Nobody really controls the quality of illegal stuff. I'd like to see the
figures of people killed by whatever additives/ersatz are found in
illegal drugs, compared to the plain unadulterated stuff. Make it legal
and it won't kill anyone (at, least not so fast).
    This may include riding motorcycles...
    Yup.

I don't know the figures for morbidity due to Ecstasy, but it wouldn't
surprise me to learn that for once he's right.

I've always thought heroin should be legalised - to the extent of
being available on prescription from GPs.

I'm not trolling when I say that such simple common sense policies to knock
off the Class A illegal drug trade are ignored to the extent I really wonder
how far the illegal slush funds reach into the political/commercial
    establishment.

The original producers get so little for their product that governments
could make them a very decent proposition.

Heh. What the free trade lot like to ignore is that you can't have proper
globalisation without free movement of labour.

He shows his ignorance in his comments about E's. It doesn't kill directly,
death is due to other factors while under the influence, it may however have
a permanent effect on the communication mechanisms of the neurons and
repeated use may cause incremental damage. Significant research has been
underway for 10 years, scientifically conclusive results being hindered by
uncertainties surrounding dose levels of users etc. as reported in The
    Psychologist.

But we knew he was a complete wanker anyway.

It was on ukrm that I first read about how the locals round your way
take E, letting it dissolve slowly in the corner of the mouth - "E by
gum" as it came to be known.
    Well yes.
