I'm in the front room with laptop on my lap and a roaring open fire cos
my room is at 3.2 deg C at the moment. Glow-Worm can't get out to see
the boiler until Wednesday, I may book into a Travelodge if it gets any
    colder in this house.

Get yourself an electric oil-filled radiator or two. That's how I've
been surviving down here with a borked boiler as the man who can can't
    due to being snowed in.

Have you tried switching off the electric supply to the boiler, wait
    a few minutes, and reboot.
This often clears intermittent logic problems.

This fixed next door's problem temporarily but the blower motor sounds
bad and was probably the cause of the initial faultflashyflashybarf.

Drain whatever pipes you can if you do.

Thanks for the offer. I have one of those in the garage, but they
    create so much condensation

  13. It gets v.cold in the desert overnight, so I'd not be surprised if cacti
have an antifreeze, but how good it might be at -10 or lower is anyone's
    guess.

What model and what are the symptoms ?

    is the fan coming on?

    is it sparking?

    Is it cutting out?

Offlist if you want, but chances are I can diagnose it, and if it's fan
or pcb, prolly got the part

It gurgles quite loudly as soon as it tries to fire up and throws up an
F1 fault code, prior to that it was giving an F4 code. There are leaks
from inside the cabinet in three different places, so the plumber
thinks it might have frozen after the frost detector failed to cut in.
The landlord has a service contract on it so Glow-worm are coming out
    to repair it on Wednesday

Mine died on new year's eve. It was under warranty with Worcester Bosch who
had an engineer here before 8am the next day. It turned out to be a broken
thermostat which wasn't actually covered but they bypassed it FOC.

    Can't fault that for service.

I'd have thought there's no need, an open fire will provide plenty of
heat. Not the most efficient way of heating, granted.

The previous house just had open fires and it was only on rare occasions
I lit the one in my daughter's room (she was 5 at the time - she was used
to it and lived to tell the tale).

This house has GCH but we still tend to only have fires - warms the whole
    house.

Well yes, they'll roast your nose and freeze your arse...

It's also hard to set it on a timer so the room is warmish when you get
    up.
