Ok, I know this has probably been done a thousand times before but they keep
bringing out new versions of the black hoops so I thought I'd ask again...

The gixxer came with BT012R (rear) and BT011 (front) and whilst I have had
no problems with the bridgestones they do tend to slide quite noticeably if
you exit a corner "really on it" and I was wondering if I would be better
going for one of the "semi-slick" style tyres like the rennsport going on
the theory that "more tyre in contact... blah blah"

There's no more tyre in contact unless you change profile and since
you're already on a 190 dropping to a 180 would actually reduce the
contact patch. Rennsports stick like shit to a blanket when they're
warm but IMO if you want to spend some money, stick a decent rear
shock in it. You'll notice a whole load more improvement over
    changing tyre manufacturer.

I've just stuck an 010 on the back of mine. Yes it still slides but
I'm used to the way it slides now.

The new BT014 seems to do the job nicely.

I liked that review, not full of the usual "it's hard on the wrists, it
    does 34.5641 mpg" type stuff.

    Cheers Daz,
I was thinking that as these type of tyres have no tread on the outside of
the tyre then they would have more contact with the road or are you telling
me that the rennsports only come in 180's so I would have to change the
    profile?

Guess its an experience thing... I still find it unnerving although it feels
controlled and would rather try to find some rubber that will stick...
    cheers.
