Tyres... what would cause this?

Did a little jaunt to Stratford and back this afternoon - nice enough ride.

However when I got back I noticed the front tyre had an unusual mark on it -
as if I had rode over a very hot
piece of metal or something - the mark's over about 15cm of the tyre,on the
left side of the tread, is sunken slightly, and almost shiny, with a rounded
shape to the depression. For those smart arses, no it's not the tread!

    WTF did I rode over?

This is one of your seth effrikanisms, I suspect. For some reason I'm
finding it really annoying although I don't usually mind.. Anyway,
here's a new word for you - "ridden".
However i suspect this one is just a typo. :)

Anyway, it's been warm today. Could you possibly have gone very slowly
over a very hot cattle grid at any point? That's about my only guess.

How the **** are we supposed to know?

FWIW, the back tyre on my FJ did that just after I'd got it.

New (to me) FJ, old tyre. The blemish wasn't there when I got the bike,
but seemed to appear somewhere around 500 miles of riding.

Sounds like a tyre defect to me. Maybe some rubber not completely fused to
    the rest?
See if you can get a replacement.

Heh - it's an idea.. though i suspect the Bridgestone man will look at tyre
that's done 6000+ miles with just a -hint- of scepticism :)

Rode/ridden. Then/Than - there are more important things to worry yourself
    about!
Yes. My newsnet postings are reflecting my general decline.
Nice idea, but a) there are no cattle grids on the route I did, b) an
average speed of 43mph over 115 miles would imply that whilst I'm still
    slow, I'm not THAT slow.

Before I set out - it was fine (36psi).

And the mark on the tyre (which I can't a picture of for a few reasons)
looks like a 'rolling' mark - ie something that the tyre went over, rather
then something coming off the tyre.

I have a SigmsSport BC700 speedo fitted to my CB250RS. I calibrated it
very carefully when I fitted it, and the top speed is recorded as being
    84.7mph[1]. I average 43.77mph on that bike.

After seeing Sean with one I wish I'd fitted a cycle computer to the MZ
    before going to Frankfurt.

    I'll have one for N. Africa/Transylvania.

I find it very useful, mainly because it incorporates a clock so I can
tell how late I am for work. It gives me time, speed in either mph or
kmh, average speed, top speed, trip mileage, total mileage and has a
stop-watch facility too. It took 20 minutes to fit once I'd got a Cat-
Eye magnet from a bicycle shop to clamp to a wheel spoke, and about 10
    minutes to calibrate.

Hein Gericke are selling the later model Base Line 800 for about 15 quid
atm. There's a m/cycle specific Targa Titan for 20 quid, with longer
cable and larger buttons, but I don't have a problem with the one I have
    tbh.

The speedo/tacho binnacle on the CB is only still there to house the
idiot lights and what's left of the ignition switch, neither clock has a
    cable running into it.

for some reason I'm much more interested in the Transylvania option.
heh. I don't have a suitable bike. What are the rules again?

I can't remember the new ones. Something stupid is my guess.
