Okay, cue everyone calling me a stupid newbie twat:> But on the CBX when I
bought it the rear was new & the front was perhaps 700 miles old (Both
Bridgestone BT45's afaik). Now 4,000 miles later both are getting very near
(1/2mm) the wear strips. Now, since I don't want to be forking out for new
tyres every 4 months, can anyone recommend some that might last a little
longer? Riding in (almost) all weathers wet & dry.

Also anyone recommend a fitter in Pontypool / Newport areas of south wales -
pref of the ride in / ride out variety?

    Ta,

  2. The true question is of course is the small saving on harder tyres
going to pay for the potential bin.

What nonsense. Different tyres give you different feedback. So long as
Tim here can recognise when his tyres are saying they're not happy he
    won't have any trouble.

Tim: Avon Azaros are worth looking at - very deep tread, quite grippy
and I'm told they work well in the wet (haven't tried and tested
properly yet). They seem to cause the odd vibe here and there (I think
due to the tread depth), but apart from not being quite as good as 010s
they're pretty good. I got mine for 155ukp, fitted to loose wheels.

within reason. £20 retreads are just plain dumb.
I don't know what they do in terms of tyres for sprot bikes, but I have
a set of continentals (tourers) on the VS and they've lasted bloody ages
(in terms of mileage), have nice deep tread and were certainly of
    reasonable cost.

I'd like to think I'm not dumb enough for retreads, looking mostly for
something with moderate grip (I haven't 'edged-out' the existing tyres yet,
in fact the rear is looking distinctly squared off), suitable for wet riding
& that may last longer than the service interval. Googling I found an old
thread that mentioned the Avons & thought I'd check if this was current good
    thinking.

BTW, if it makes any difference the front is a 16", the rear an 18"

Not altogether sure they do any 16" fronts or 18" rears to fit a CBX750.

    I'd stick with the BT45.

give these a ring, not used them myself but they have been recommended to
me - apparently he's got a van complete with wheel balancing machine.

  9. Always strikes me as a false economy the difference per mile is
negligible, maybe more point in the summer when there's less chance of
    actually needing all the grip.

    Rubbish.

Yes, different tyres give different feedback.

No, don't accept that just by 'recognising' this you won't have any
    trouble.

Grip isn't just for cornering- it's also for braking...

What's your point? It's missed me completely. You can feel when the
tyre is slipping when braking, as well as when cornering. With that in
mind I don't see why he can't still take action to prevent mishap, as he
would if he were on different tyres.

Oh no, he appears to have fucked off again. Actually, I never saw him do

Thanks for the info, looking deeper I'll probably stick with the BT's for
now, though I'll look at the Avons / Continentals and see what I think.
