Tyres from the US

    Hi folks.

I've just had a nice bloke from FedEx at the door, delivering a pair of
Pilot Pure tyres for my Street Triple.

For a while, I had been interested in the business of buying tyres from
America, but kept finding the on-line tyre places didn't seem to want to
    do business with Ozzies.

Then, on the U.C. forum, there was a link to
    http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/

So I followed the link, ordered the tyres that I wanted at a US$330,
which translated to some $313 Ozzies, including shipping.

Exactly one week later, today, they arrived.

I didn't actually need the tyres at the moment, but, when you have fun
on a Striple, it won't be long 'till you will need them.

I'll just tell Angie that they were On Sale and a bargin. ;-)

Oh, apologies in advance for posting something kind of on topic.

    regards,
    CrazyCam

It's a top time to be buying stuff from the US, with the current exchange
rate - when I bought my Yoshi pipe, even with shipping it cost less than it
    costs to buy one here.

www.rmeuropean.com who are registered as a Rockymountain company

Well now, that'd depend on whether you were a northerner or a southerner, ah
    guess ;-)

The only apparel I've bought online - and it's been a bit hit and miss - has
been winter gloves. I generally like to try stuff on before I buy it.

I find the mosfets don't hang on as well in the wet as the Michelins.

My cash just left the country for the Europe trip I'm doing in June.

Back when I first started looking into it in October, it was quoted at
roughly 5500 Euro. The webpage still lists Euro. But when they send
you the final invoice, they request it in $US -- "do not send it to
our Austrian bank account in Euro - make sure your bank does not
convert it to Euro!". A little over $5500US, from memory.

Why on earth did they commit to accepting only US$ at a rate just
before the US$ plunged? I'm not complaining! I'm just hoping my bank
    followed my instructions.

2 racing bicycle tyres, with shipping from the UK, usually came at
about the same price as 1 identical tyre without shipping from a local
store. When I was living remote, I'd have to take a day off to go
visit the store. It always arrived within 5 days delivered from the
    UK.

I also bought cycling shoes from the UK for $300, sight unseen. I was
willing to risk it, because I really didn't want to have to ride (pre
motorbike licence) to Dubbo to try some on. I knew I could return
them for $20 postage if they didn't fit, and they cost a fortune here.
They ended up fitting better than my previous shoes.

    Actually it was neither.

The correct clan for me is the Clan Gunn, but, since I was named after
the Camerons regiment, which my father, his brother, my grand dad and
various uncles had all served in since time immemorial, I wore the
Cameron regimental tartan, complete as tradition required for the Camerons.
