Tyres, a mission.

Having recently started to take the wife unit out regularly on the Zed, the
Conti Sport Attack tyres are taking a battering and won't last much longer,
so as the bike (and my) needs have changed, so the tyre choice would appear
to, and I want to know is what's the best all rounder for someone who rides
like a tart and carries a tart more often than previously?

I liked the Bridgestone 014's the bike came with and the Conti's are
brilliant when they're warmed up, (absolutely fucking lethal when they're
cold though) but neither have much in the way of longevity and riding two up
is only adding to the wear rate.

As I'm heading off for a two week jaunt around Scandinavia this summer, and
likely to add at least 3000 miles to the odometer, what do the FOAK reckon I
should consider? Would a sports tourer type of tyre be a better bet than a
pure sports tyre (given that I'm a chicken shit rider) or am I likely to
find myself spread out along the road when I get giddy?

I REALLY need some help (yeah, yeah) with this one.

Avon AV 45/46ST. I can't make the fuckers slide on the Bandit no matter
how hard I try and they last forever. I've run out of chicken strip to
demolish on the front tyre, to the extent that the crash bars are now
touching down. They warm up nicely and grip well cold or hot, wet
    weather grip is fine too.

    AOL. What the man said.
Fitting Azaros transformed my old barge of an FJ1100 to the point that I get
various bits of metalwork down that were impossible to scrape with the BT45s
I used previously. As Lozzo said, they are excellent in the wet too.

Enquired on what it would cost me to change the tyres on the Strom
    today (fitted price) :

    BT020 : £204.85
    Azaro 45/46 : £175.59

So I shall be giving the Azaro's a try, though my sensible brain is
arguing that the Trailwings aren't actually worn out and isn't it all a
bit of a waste of money.

Especially as the first 500 odd miles of the new tyres life is likely
    to all be motorway/autoroute :-|

    Anyway, it's only money.

You _sure_ you want to suggest that when I'll have a chance to argue it
(in my own, special, style) later that same day?

Of course if you're right there is the chance to bask in praise, if
you're wrong... the road to obtuseness.

IIRC, that cruising along on the motorway doesn't actually wear tyres
all that much - not much accleration/deceleration stressing the tyre.

Just think "Conventional wisdom is bollocks, according to Champ."

I'm never _quite_ sure that I agree 100%, but I usually try to avoid
doing long motorway stretches so just don't have the evidence to prove
    it.

IME this is certainly true. I did 75000 motorway miles on the original
    tires on my old GTI

Did you decide whether you're coming to Sedan (or direct to Nurburgring)
in a couple of week's time? I guess that will involve a lot of motorway?

Perhaps Champ would like to tell me why the old ZZR1100s used to square
the tyres massively when I was doing regular trips to Jockland to see

The idea is still there. I probably won't "decide" until a couple of
days in advance, but it would be direct to the ring, yes.
If I'm pushed for time, yes. And I would be, as it's a good four hours
or more away. But I don't think that a few hundred motorway miles will
really do much in the way of tyre wear at all...

    Hang on a mo...

Ah, yes, perhaps I _do_ agree with Champ after all...

That'll ding dang do for me sir. I was scouring Busters catalogue and saw
them and (really) I thought of you and your love of them, bt I wasn't sure
which bike you loved them on. I shall look seriously at placing an order,
but first.... I have a few more responses to peruse.

    Cheers Loz

Living in Manc and close to the junction of the M60, M62, M61 and M6, with a
portion of M65 thrown in for good measure, motorways figure petty highly on
my roads if I "need" to get where I'm going in a resonable time. Obviously I
prefer not to use them, but it's either 10 minutes on one of them or half an
hour farting about with a million sets of lights, they usually win, so I
need unwearoutable rubber in the middle of the tyre:)

Those Avons Loz and others suggested are definitely going to be the next
    purchase.

I had them on a ZZR1100 as well, plus ridden an RF900 with them fitted
and a couple of other bikes I've forgoten the models of. They were fine
    on all of them.
