Tyred out

Got a new tyre fitted last week (i provided the tyre and a loose wheel) and
was presented back with the old tyre as the shop reckons it costs them loads
to dispose of them. I was advised that I should "Chuck it in a ditch".

Being slightly more public spirited I took it down the tip, only to be told
"we can't take tyres anymore". I asked where I could take it: "Dunno, not
    here".

So where can i dispose of it[1]? Plan B is to cut it in half and take it
back down the tip in a couple of bin bags but I can see a lot of tyres
ending up in ditches if this is the way it's going to be.

[1] Apart from the afore mentioned ditch

I think it would be easier for you to dispose of two tyres at the same
    time. ...

It apparently costs £1.50 per tyre to dispose of the old carcass. You
being the public-spirited yoof wot you are, I'd suggest that you lob
it at Kwik-Fit ... they don't necessarily have to be open ... you
could do it when convenient this evening, like. When it's dark.

Apparently there's loads of little grey boxes on posts all over the
country, whose main purpose is tyre disposal. Simply hang tyre round
the box, fill with petrol and set fire to it. Job done.

Wait for a nice sunny July evening when all the neighbours are having a
    barbeque... and burn the bastard!

    Just a thought.

There's no Kwik Fits out here. Could I just lob it in a ditch with £1.50
    sellotaped to it?

  9. Get rope. Tie one end around tyre. You now have two options

    1) Tie other end to speedboat, and charge kids at sea-side
a quid a go. At some point, a really fat kid will turn up,
    and sink it. Voila.

    2) Tie other end around branch in tree as
    a) swing for kids
    b) sex aid for doggers.

Some good ideas there but thinking about it, there's at least two hundred
yards left in the tyre so I may ebay it instead.

I've got one in my garage to dispose of. I'll let you take it, FOC.

Perhaps I could challenge you to a stick and hoop race instead. Whats the
    speed rating of your tyre?

I take mine to race meetings and leave them in the dumpsters in the
    pits.
