Well I'm home in central Queensland from the Island.
But while in Brisbane I noticed the rear tyre (Michelin pilot sports) I'd
had fitted before I left , was facing the wrong way. It had been mounted
incorrectly by a usually good bike shop. Luckily I had to ride in very
little rain the whole trip. I had even went about as hard as I could up the
mountain from Cann river (o/t - I wish they had more service stations there)
and it doesn't seem to have been a problem. Has anyone else had a experience
    like this?.

  2. Hey that's handy - sorta like winding back a speedo, you should get an
extra 2500km that you've just wound off it!

    Cheers

    (Glad to be of help)

  3. How do you figure that?

A number of race-compound tyres, such as Michelin Pilot Race and Dunlop
D208GP, have front tread patterns which look "backwards".

All it means is if you put your brakes on hard in the wet, you'll more
likely lose control and slide longer.

D208GP, have front tread patterns which look "backwards".

That's your technical summation of their configuration then?

  7. Well, it's no less sophisticated than the assessment made by the OP, and it
refrains from making any actual conclusions.

What do you make of the tread pattern on a front D208, or a front Pilot
    Race?

The Dunlop team tested it on almost two years ago to the day. The tires
facing the wrong way would lose about 2 metres in stopping distance
everytime in hard braking in the wet. The tires would also be more likely to
slip out when going on a hard lean into a corner. The only up side was there
was less grove wear on the tire rubber, which ment the tires would probably
    last longer.

  9. With a Dunlop, that's probably a bad thing. It means more time and km's
until it wears out and gives you an excuse to replace it with a decent tyre.

In any case, why didn't you just say the above to begin with? And what sort
of psychopath expects wet-weather performance from a sports tyre?

Notice how I keep typing "tyre"?

  11. My tyres don't have *any* trees on them (even in the grooves)...

Perhaps the tyre was put on correctly, but your bike was pointing the wrong
direction when the wheel was put on the bike. Shyt happens.

Never paid much mind to be honest. They're not tyres I'd be choosing if I was planning on wet weather riding.

  19. I'll second that. 8000k's and the fucken shit D207's are still going strong.
No grip but they still have tread so I'm loathe to replace them. It is
however loads of fun sliding them around...

Wow - a 2 metre extra in stopping distance.
What happens if it's the front tyre thats backwards??

Note : Its the rear tyre that was fitted backwards

What happens if you put a rear tyre on the front but turn it around so it
    runs backwards??
Yes I have done this on an FJ1200..
