Alas gone are the days you could get away with: "its a racing slick
    officer".

That's a bit worrying - the front tyre has grooves that taper to nothing at
    the edges from new.

Although they feel horrible, they do grip much better than expected on the
rare occasions I throw it about (just not in the wet).

Years ago I had a front tyre that had grooves crossing on the
diagonal: one diagonal was considerably shallower than the other. I
never really knew whether the losing the shallow grooves counted as
    'worn out'.

Years ago I run the bike in gear on the centre stand while I poured oil on
the chain, a flint in the gravel was standing proud and cut a shallow groove
    in the back tyre.

A few days later a nosey plod pointed at the shallow groove and asked "is
that the tread?", I explained about the chain oiling and the flint standing
proud and pointed out "look, you can see the groove is off centre", plod
    just grunted and walked off.

Make a habit of this, do we sir? Only I'm thinking of the (frankly
shocking) state of your rear tyre on the last FrogTrip.

I note that you and Pat are apparently serial offenders in the "riding
    on very thin rubber" stakes.
Oh, I *see*. Led astray by a woman! You should have said. On you go sir,
have a good trip. Evening all...

Damn - I'd forgotten about that.
<g> We're getting more sensible. This time we got a new tyre fitted in
    Southampton before heading home.

I just prefer a bit of meat on the tyres, I change them around 2-3mm
dependant on how they wear (4x4's somethimes can be a bit off)

I actually meant, it's quite easy to forget that the tyres are very close to
1.6mm, like me forgetting to MOT the car]
Down at 1mm? Crikey. I must admit, the ZZR is the bike i am thinking about
    too :)
