A quick google produced about equal number of answers in favour of 1.0mm and
1.6mm - which one is correct?

    TIA.

If you mean minimum legal, I believe it's 1.6 on cars and 1.0 on bikes

1mm for bikes, 1.6mm for cars. There are a few more 'restrictions' too.

Change them both way before, ffs.

Agree with m'leaned posters: 1mm for bikes. There are some other
rules, such as 'across x% of the tyre width and around the entire
    circumference.

Most manufacturers of bikes and tyres reccommend 2mm minimum, but
persoally, unless it's *seriously* sensitive to its tyres or used on
track (or a 'crosser) then that's a bit over-cautious IMO.

Oh, and IIRC 'visible tread' for mopeds.

Change them when the fabric is showing or when the handling goes off.
It's not as if bike tyres need grooves.

    Aren't you glad you asked?

I've ridden a motorcycle with less than 1mm of tread through a puddle
    that's deeper than 1mm, and I haven't died.

Am I some kind of Riding God?

Clerical error, I expect. It happens a lot.
Ah. Sorry, all sales are final.

You can't do that, not according to the Sale of Gods Act.

A couple of reasons on a car, one it's way too easy to lose it in the wet
with no tread & too easy to get points. Second to me is feel on a bike,
unless it's been hammered sideways a lot, it will feel horrible at 1mm.
