That's the stuff I was thinking about. Apparently, you need to cut the
affected flesh off to get rid of it.

In it's normal state Nitrile Rubber is very skin safe and is often used for
safety gloves, aprons and boots for use in hostile environments (strong
chemicals etc). It causes less skin reaction than vinyl.

http://www.safeskin.com/ChemResist/search.asp?o=3 shows a table of dangerous
chemicals that Nitrile is Good or Excellent at resisting.

I'd also *heard* about the dangers of heated Nitrile Rubber but a quick
Google didn't confirm this and I'm now wondering if it's an UL or if
    *someone's* got mixed-up.

I do know that the resins used to pack components in same engine management
systems are dangerous in this way, as a friend is a recovery truck driver
and he had to have special training before he was allowed to recover
    burnt-out vehicles.

It is actually fairly viscous, and sticks well enough to the tyre for
the purpose. And yes, any surplus washes off instantly with water.
Unlike some tyre fitting "gel" a car tyre shop once filled one of my
tyres with - it oozed out during the next 2-300miles, leaving a slippery
coating on the side walls. I don't want that again.
