    Hi folks,

I have an SV650S that is heading in the direction of needing a new
rear tyre (still got a good few hundred in it at least)... Currently
    fitted with a Metzeler Mez4...

    Two questions if I may...

    1. Roughly how many miles would you expect to see out of said tyre -
bear in mind a) Im a new rider, and b) I've spent more time on the
motorway than I would have ideally liked - so a) and b) combined mean
    I have flatspotted it a bit ;-)

    2. This is the main question - What tyre would people recommend to
replace it with, and do you have any recommendations for suppliers -
esp in the Bristol / Wilts / Somerset areas....

    TIA

    Steve

Consensus amongst people I know with SV650/ER5/CB500 etc is that
Bridgestone BT45 is the tyre to use.

Try TyreSales in Gloucester. The have a ride in ride out service and carry
a good stock. 01452 525991. They are in Kingsholm, next door to the
    Gloucester rugby football ground.

Just across the Severn, in the Forest of Dean is Five Acres Garage. Tel.
01594 833517. Again offer a ride in, ride out service.

You'll find some others in the FAQ at www.ukrm.net/faq

You sure? The SV has bigger tyres then either the ER5 or CB500...

    I'd say BT020's or even 010's - they lasted 6-8k on mine.

That said, the OP has said motorways - so the 020.

    you are right!

can't see why they need to fit ZR rated tyres to such a bike. BT45 come in
V rated to fit bikes like early CBR600s.

I've used ProTyre in Bristol for 3 years without any problems. They
offer a ride in, ride out service.

Bike Treads in Swindon have been recommended by others.

Thanks guys... Ive since been told that while the BT020's are indeed a
good tyre, if I'm switching from Mez4's I should do front and back at
the same time - even though front Mez is fine?

What kinda mileage would you say I should get from the 020's? I
suspect the Mez4 will finally have to go, just short of 5k....

    Cheers

    Steve
