havent seen or used that myself

but there is a cheaper option

    tyre signal valve pressure caps

    http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/

click on tyre and wheel accessories on the left hand side

CONVENIENT and USER FRIENDLY, the TIRE SIGNAL comes ready to use in a 4 pack
for cars and trucks and a special 2 pack for motorcycles. Also available
individually for vehicles with different pressure ranges front and back. Use
of The TIRE SIGNAL is easy. Simply replace your existing tire valve caps
with The TIRE SIGNAL and you're ready to go!

    HOW DOES TIRE SIGNAL WORK?

    SAFE

If the indicator is GREEN you tire is correctly inflated.

    CAUTION

YELLOW indicates that you tire is missing a few pounds of air and should be
    attended to soon.

    DANGER

The colour RED indicates that your tire has lost more than 7 pounds of air
and should be serviced immediately to maintain a safe ride.

A bloody valvecap would have been useful too.

I was thinking about it on my sidecar as it has car tyres on it and the
lateral forces on the tyres can be huge (rolling a tyre off the rim is a
real possibility if it has a slow leak).

  5. If it steers anything like mine I wouldn't bother, John. There's heaps of
feel and I've had no probs getting home with slow leaks that needed two
    stops per tank.

  6. I've had sidecar tyres come off twice, main trouble being the 10" rim didnt
have a safety rim to stopp the bead from moving. One instance caused the
    sidecar to roll over.

Mine has the 10inch wheel as well, may be worthwhile changing it for a mini
    mag with a safety rim.

  8. Struth! Come to think of it, my mower's been spitting a few lately too but
    they're more like 7".

  9. The second sidecar the rim was a safety rim. My precaution after the tyre
rolling off was to run it high, say about 30psi and I had a tub so if the
tyre dislodged the air couldnt escape.

  11. Yeah both, I was in the sidecar. I was lucky, it could have hurt big time.

Very lucky you were not wearing the kilt when you rolled over!

I have used the signal valve pressure caps - the ones I used show green
when first screwed on, and if the pressure drops by a couple of PSI,
they show red. That's the idea anyway, although I have checked my tyre
pressures manually several times and found them down 3-4 PSI without the
red showing. I stopped using them.

Which will only show you the pressures when you get off the bike, so
they're for people who are too lazy to check their tyre pressures. The
smartire units give you actual tyre pressure readings as you ride.

I was quoted $375 plus shipping, from a safety point of view it could be a
wise investment. I wonder if these are the only ones available and have no
idea as to the quality of the units.

The units are made in Canada. As far as I know they are of the highest
    quality.
Also as far as I know these are the only ones available.

And clearly this is a major advantage as they give a warning of a tyre
    problem before it gets critical.
