    I reckon a tyre would on average last > 1 year on a 250.

    Wouldn't that depend on how many Kms you do, what sort of tyre you buy,what sort
    of riding you do and what sort of 250 you have ?

    JL
    (in other words elapsed time is really rather irrelevant)

    Greatly dependant on type of use, kms travelled in a year and type of tyres purchased.

    I stand by the comment.

    Survey the entire population of 250cc owners, and see if >50% of them have
    tyre life of > 1 year.

    Survey the entire population of 250cc owners and see if greater than 50% of them
    wear black undies, just as relevant.

    Elapsed time incorporates about 15 assumptions half of which are going to be
    wrong in any one instance.

    The current tyres on my KR1 250 have lasted over 12 months, however the exact
    same tyre on the exact same bike lasted 3 months just before that. Why ? Because
    I haven't ridden the bloody thing for 9 months.

    Dumb statement Jules, get over it. The primary measurement of tyre life on a
    bike is number of Kms, the next major variable is how sticky the tyre is (BT12s
    don't last as many K's as BT20s for example)

    Just because all your mates on 250s only ride 2000Km a year doesn't make that
    normal

    my EL250 (i dont have as of 5pm) had a 2/3 worn tyre when i bought it, and i managed to easily clock up 6500kms on it in that
    condition (i wore it down to having a vauge resemblance of tread on centre) so i imagine 18,000kms would be an easily done
    feat, now to wear the full 18,000kms, you'd have to do 354kms each week, every week. That's a lotta km's, you going to be doing
    that much? or less?

    besides a shit tyre may cost about $130, a good one $180, does it *REALLY* matter that much to save that $50 over the course of
    a year, that's like less than a dollar extra per week if you think about it. dont be a tight ass, get your bike handling the best
    you can, and learn how to use it to the best of your (and its) potential.

    You really can't spend to much on a bike tyre you only have two of 'em...by
    the best...(Note I said the best not the best that you can afford)...

    Someone let Hamish Alker-Jones at loose on an
    internet connection and the result was:
    yep...250 riders with black undies and >1 tyre per year with< wearing of the
    (black undies) for having a life if after the while lying on the couch naked
    == if girl else 'oh well theres always tomorrow'

    never forgetting that
    while(n ~= 200)
    var=0;
    var= (-(-1)^n*(u^n))/(n*factorial(n));
    var1=var1+var;
    n=n+1;
    end
    w=-E-log(u)+var1;
    ww=[ww w];
    wu=[wu u];
    u=u+1*10^(-q);
    z=z+1;
    end
    q=q-1;
    u=1*10^(-q);
    if(u==1)
    z=1;
    while (z~=6)
    n=1;
    var1=0;
    while(n ~= 200)
    var=0;
    var= (-(-1)^n)*((u^n)/(n*factorial(n)));

    The tyres on my 250 have so far lasted 8 years. Then again, the bikes only
    done 12000 :)
    Kinda makes it fun in the corners with the rubber having hardened with age!!

    For ****'s sake! Even the CB250RS would chew through a couple
    of sets a year ...
    Gods almighty, why do you bother?

    hmm...well for me and my '98 CBR600 with my riding style...Pirelli MT21s...

    For you and with your CBR who knows...but spend more and you will probably
    be happier and safer (and skint)

    Certainly.

    But without asking the original poster any questions, without determining kms travelled etc etc, > 1 year is an assumption I'm happy
    with.

  19. ummmm......... NO. Not this one, anyway. Besides, if Jules is female,
    s/he would be right, because us wimmin always are. So there. And if he's a
    boy, well, he'll never get and keep a girlfriend if he can't admit he's
    wrong on every possible occasion. It's in the unwritten rule book that all
    wimmen know, and that men aren't allowed to see, but are expected to follow
    or else get in deep doodoo. The same book where, magically, the unwritten
    rules change all the time to suit _her_ circumstances.

    Well that is 1500 Ks per year , or 375Ks per month over a four month
    period - i.e. those most likely to have really nice weather.

    So maybe 2 good little trips per month over this four month period ...
    better than nothing! :) Although might get a bit rusty, 8 years of staying
    alive puts the owner well ahead of the Darwin curve.
