I need a new front tyre for the 12R.

    Protyre list two options:

    Bridgestone BT020: £108

    Pirelli MTR01: £63

    Two questions:

Is the Bridgestone really worth nearly twice as much as the Pirelli?

Does it really matter about mismatching front/rears? It's already
mismatched, wearing a D208 on the back.

Well I took a brand new Pirelli Corsa III IIRC) off the Zed and put a
Bridgestone 014 on to get away from the vague floaty feeling I got with the
Pirelli, so I reckon that first choice ended up costing me 200 quid. It
wasn't the cheapest lesson I've ever learned, but I'll not be putting a
Pirelli tyre on the front wheel again.

The back one is superb though, so now the bike has a mis-matched pair.
The Zed seems to love the combination.

Firstly - that's bizzare. With very few exception, almost every
sporting bike in the last 10 years has used a 120/70 17 front, so I
dunno why they only list two.
    I'd be suprised.
    Not really.

I think it's a "not many people have ZX12Rs" thing - hardly any of the
manufactures' own tyre fitment websites list anything at all for the
    12R.

**** it, I'll just rock up to Protyres and ask the bloke - he seems to
    know what he's doing.
