    Bead breaker.......Anglegrinder or hacksaw and benchvice.
    You just need to get the bloody tyre off without damageing the rims right?

    Refitting......Compressor up to 40psi, make sure the O.E paint dot is next
    to the valve and orientation is correct.
    Inflate.
    If the tyre dos`nt "pop" into place you need a Bead-expander.....
    Or some rope wrapped around the tyre and a tourequet, a couple of rachet
    straps, anything to expand the tyre beead into the wells......inflate.

    Furniture polish makes a good lube for fitting but for pedants use a
    mold-release agent or PTFE spray as used in GRP manufactureing.

    Balancing...best left to tightrope walkers..or use two stools,the
    axle,roofing lead,and Zen;-)

    Anglegrinder was a bit OTT but the bench vice and surruptitous cutting with
    a hacksaw does work.
    I`ve done it on 170/60 ZR 17`s and as long as care is taken it works.
    The object is to get the tyre off with no damage to the rim?
    Stick it on one of Kwick-fit (sic) machine`s and watch it chew the alloy.

    For speed I use an anglegrinder just to "break the back" of the tyre, never
    getting close to the rim.

  7. Pikey bead breaker...

    Hole in wall, spade, 8 feet of 3"x3".

    Lay wheel flat, place spade upright on bead, insert wood into hole and
    over the shoulder of the spade.

    Sit on wood.

  10. Actually, the first time I saw this done, the fella was a lithe, slim
    chap not unlike yourself.
    Well, instead of the wood - two pieces of scaffold slotted together, a
    spade, and a handy hole can be found anywhere.

    To make the extra sidewalls I had on the bangers [1] the best tool was an
    old serrated bread knife. Hacksaw was too fine and a stanley knife 'dug
    in'.


    [1] It was common practice to cut out the sidewall of an old tyre and
    sandwich it between the rim and tyre on the wheel. This would cut down
    on the sidewall damage and punctures. The wheels needed tubing.

    I used to buy the chaps at the local tyre depot a catering sized Nescafe
    tin for every eight they got the apprentice to make up for me.
    Apparently it was quite tricky and required a perfect technique.

    Minus the hole in the wall and suitable wood that methoid served me admirably
    for the supermoto racing. Place spade near rim on the tyre and apply far too
    many kilos of body weight on the top of the spade blade and wait for the bead to
    unseat. I plan on applying the same technique this year.

    My local Riossi always used to do this for free for me. Shame they've gone
    titsup. [1] Having said that, my local National tyres will change two tyres
    (loose wheels) for a fiver so it;s worth asking.
    Sometimes. Other times it's possible to spend 30minutes cursing, stabbing
    oneself with tyre levers and sweating.
