Being a bit of a newbie I wonder if anyone can offer a little tyre advice,
please excuse all the garb but not sure what's impotant here:

    Presently Fitted

Front: Bridgestone Exedra G601 110/70-17 54H (needs replacing)
Rear: Bridgestone Battlax BT020R Radial 150/70-ZR17 (almost new)

    Handbook Says:

    Front: Bridgestone Exedra G601 110/70-17 54H
    Rear: Bridgestone Exedra G602 150/70-17 69H

The question being, the bike would appear to have the wrong rear tyre on at
present and the front tyre is well worn, so do I need to buy a new pair, or
can I buy a new front to match the rear or finally should I just replace the
front one with the type suggested in the handbook.

    TIA

Get a BT020 front to match the rear. YKIMS.

BT020s are a _much_ better tyre than the old Exedras.

have a look at this pdf file from the Bridgestone site

you'll see that they recommend alternatives to the Exedra

They recommend BT39 or BT45 (H rated crossply tyres). These will be better
than the Exedra as the use the dual compound technology. You have a ZR
rated radial BT020 which is over spec for the job but still a good choice
for the Bandit. I agree with SteveH, buy a front BT020.

http://mc.bridgestone.co.jp/en/ has more details about the different tyres

I going to swim against the tide here and suggest replacing the back with a
    worn Bridgestone Exedra.

Being on a limited budget I like the idea of just buying a BT020 for the
    front if this is safe?

any idea how much a BT020 front tyre will cost including fitting? just a
rough idea so I know how much to put by after xmas.

That's just fwr. Bridgestone do supply an 110/70 17 020:
    http://www.bridgestone-eu.com/tyres...ND=Suzuki&sMODEL=GSF600+Bandit+(GN77B)+(>'99)

I looked on their product range first and could only find a 120, so I
went through their product selector and came up with the above result.

The 120 is recommended for the later and current Bandit 600, but if
your handbook (and, I would assume, the sticker on the swinging arm)
state that a 110 is required then stick with that. I also wandered
out to the patio and checked with the currently resident GSF600N and
    that is wearing a 110.

Matching tyres, by manufacturer and type is recommended; mixing tyres
is a black art best left to those who know exactly what they are doing
and have relevant experience to support their choices. As you have a
well-known and approved fitment in place on the rear, I'd match it
    with a front 020, of 110 section.

Have a look round the web, or go through your Yellow Pages and find a
supplier who will fit one for you: about 90 quid fitted to a loose
wheel or 100 quid for ride in, ride out is reasonable. Get a few
prices and _guaranteed_ delivery/fitting time/dates and compare.

NB. I have benefitted by using the tyre manufacturer's recommended
pressures, rather than those suggested by the bike manufacturer on
several occasions, especially when the tyre fitment was not one
originally specified by the bike manufacturer.

Do check they have it in stock before you go. Shouldn't be an issue
    with 020's but check anyway.

  16. BT020s *rock* on 600 Bandits (well, they did on mine until the
unfortunate incident with the Renault). Put one on the front to
match; G601/2s have a tendency to let go in the wet.

  17. Last week my local tyre place told me my rear tyre [1] was beyond help due
almost simultaneously getting two punctures about 2" apart, and also being
worn out. Quoted £105 for a new 010, I pulled a "it's close to Christmas
and I was hoping we could just mend the puncture" face and ended up with a
slightly used 057 for £30 fitted :) Was very pleased with that and so
far it seems much nicer than the last tyre, though that could just be
    because it's not so square....

    Steve.
