Two questions for JP

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by AndrewR, May 5, 2004.

  1. I was stopped a couple of years ago, and the copper
said they were stopping everyone looking for drink-drivers.
He smelled my breath (poor sod), and let me go. I don't
have a problem with that, at all. The more DDs they stop
    the better.

I hads a bike copper in front of me the other day. He over took several
cars and then vanished round a corner. I rounded said corner he pulled out
of the side street and pulled me.(1) Then after a talking to he rode off in
to a national limit quite quick, over a bridge and then pulled in to the
motorway slip road and waited for me to go past again, then followed me.
Trying to get me for speeding. I was not impressed.

    (1) had a small plate on but its not small small its well visable.

You're back! Where was this? I don't think I'll be out until I've got
new tyres if they're being arsey round here.

    <thinks>

Speeding? It wasn't *that* policeman was it? <g>

    Dont shoot the messenger

Most of the time its a hunch - like a certain Chrysler PT Cruiser two
days ago. Cant say what it was but turned out nicely - stolen off the
forecourt of a garage a year ago (brand new and unregistered) and both
    occupants wanted for similar offences
As above - its the law and very often its just a "sixth sense" about
the vehicle and/or its occupants. I reckon that about 75% of the
hunches (speaking for myself!) are right for one reason or another.

Wasn't Suttcliffe (Yorkshire ripper) only caught by a routine vehicle
stop? opened the boot and he had the murder weapons in there.

"People who refuse to register for the government's planned ID card
scheme could face a "civil financial penalty" of up to £2,500, it has
    emerged.
David Blunkett said not making registering a criminal issue would
    avoid "clever people" becoming martyrs.

Mr Blunkett has previously said at the very least nobody should be
able to work or claim benefits without one.

He said people would not have to carry it in the street, but would
have to produce it when required by competent authorities."

I already have 2 forms of Govt issued photo-ID that can be produced at a
Police Station on request or demand - a UK passport and my driving
licence. If I want to get really funny I can also produce a Maltese
passport too. The police also have my mugshot and fingerprints on file,
so why should I bother getting an ID card? It seems pointless to me.

I absolutely refuse to pay 35 quid for this worthless piece of plastic
that this govt are forcing on me.

  13. So you will pay £2,500 instead. Personally I've got enough money
stacking up in a "don't touch" bank account that £2,500 will be no issue
for me. I'm interested to see what they do after the first fine. Another
£2,500 or does it then become a criminal offence - they then get their
    martyrs.

Sometimes people have to make a stand. I'm sick of all this sort of shit
being thrust upon us and I'm prepared to be prosecuted for it *and* not
pay the fines. I already have 2 forms of UK Govt issued Photo-ID and I
cannot see why I should pay 35 quid for something in addition to this,
that the govt wants me to have against my wishes.

  15. A government spokesman on the radio recently said that anyone
who needs to see your ID will also have a biometric scanner
so they can match your iris or fingerprints instantly with
    the national database.
Hence ID cards will be obsolete by the time they are compulsory.

At what point does a roadside check become a roadside test that the
driver of vehicle may elect to defer, to a 7 day period within the next
30 days, unless it is clearly too defective to be allowed to proceed?
