TWO Mag - Confused

  1. So a bit like you then so far as the awkward and opinionated bit goes?
Well I used to enjoy Car back then. I only buy Bike these days - I've
given up on all of the rest simply because it was a complete and utter
waste of money to read the same tests over and over again written with
all the style of a demented seven year old trying to imagine what being
    a teenage rebel is like.

Even Bike is getting a bit patchy - the new fangled bike test is just an
exercise in substituting statistics for writing. It's not easy to know
exactly why a bike is good to ride or own unless your only assessment
    criteria are numbers.
I enjoy his page in Bike - different and eclectic. Not a huge bike
sports fan but might take a look.

Sorry to be so dim, do you mean they do too many but don't realise it or
they don't do enough and the ones they do do are crap?

I've never read FB mag, however, if his writing in TWO was anything to go
by, he seemed to be attempting to be Dan Walsh. Only less funny.

  5. Possibly, yes. But better that than a time-server who won't stamp any
identity at all upon a title.

    [of Jimarillo]
He (Jimarillo) just manages to annoy the **** out of me /whatever/ he's
    doing.

The writing style analogy I used 'cause I recall reading more than one of
his pieces in TWO and it was /very/ much in the style of Mr.Walsh, but
lacking the surrealism and twisted-ness he oft manages to convey.
Heh. In the Mach2 vid he arse-ends Frosty at the peage booth an' all.

    Tit.
    <LOL!>

If you want to contact him to remind him of any of this, his email addy
    used to be

    Oops.

  9. Yep - no on would lend them bikes. But then, most importers assume the
people testing 'em can actually fucking ride, which the FB lot seemed
    rather shite at

  10. Although mags like SB, PB etc. won't admit it, but if one of the
'sports' titles has a good month (anywhere from 40 to 80 thousand
copies), then the others will usually sell around the 25 to 30 thousand
mark. Judging from the industry figures that I got my hands on, none of
these mainstream sports mags have a particularly solid readership base,
but rather a far more transient one that's based purely on what's in
that particular month's issue - the exact opposite of specialist mags
such as Streetfighters, or Classic American (a car mag) for example,
which sell pretty much the same number month after month

  13. No, producers
I know - I know dozens of 'em as many also do table/pole dancing and
glamour modelling (such as Streetfighters shoots...)

  15. This isn't strictly true. What liquid cooling does is allow you to
*control* the cooling of an engiune much better, by directing coolant to
precisely where it's needed, in the right quantities rather than just
    blowing air over everything.

But yeah, for ultimate performance and (as you say) noise regs, liquid
cooling is the way to go.

As regards noise, my guess is we'll be seeing more belt drive, shaft
drive and possibly enclosed chain drive in the near future, too. A chain
    produces a lot of decibels.

A chain produces a lot of noise. A decibel is simply a ratio
of the measured quantity to a reference quantity; in the
case of sound I think the correct unit is dBA (although
sound isn't my 'thing' so I may be wrong).

I'm tempted to give a worked example of using dB to show how
many dB 'up' Sime's weight is on Alien Kev's.

Assuming Simes is about 150k (I think that's a conservative
figure) and Kev is about 30k we end up with 150/30 so we
could say that Simes is 5 Kevs. Normally this would be
sufficient but in the case where we get large ratios the
    figures become unwieldy.

Anyhow, continuing... if we take the logarithm of 5 we get
0.7, so multiplying that by 10 we get a figure for Simes'
    weight of 7dBKev.

Referring to Simes as 7dB would clearly be nonsensical
because we have no idea of what we're comparing him to.

    Is that clear?

I have to do something like this on a regular basis to try
to fool myself into believing that I'm still an Engineer and
not just a corporate whore. It generally fails.

Yeah, yeah yeah. These are the scales that read -50Kg
before you step on them, right?
5.5dBKev... (he says ignoring his error using k instead of
    Kg in the original post).
