missed that, J28 to J29 were closed, assholes using the slip road to
bypass the queue from dartford, but about 2pm on the way back
somewhere around M25 J9 westbound there was what looked like a red
metro facing the wrong way in lane 4 with what looked like a bike
under the rear wheels, then an hour later about M3 J3 northbound there
was another pile up, red car sort of 406 style sat on its roof in lane
    1.

Both the ones I saw had at least 3 fire engines attending, plus the
"cutting crew" fire brigade vehicles, plus half a dozen plus plod
    vehicles.

A day of 750 miles and apart from those two instances and the parked
police vehicles where M25 was closed J29n the only other police car I
    saw was on the A303.

Dry roads, excellent visibility, no excuse for it.

    Unless it wasn't entirely accidental.

The driver of a silver BMW has been arrested for causing death by dangerous
driving, so it sounds as if it may not have been accidental.

I'd say that sounds as if the driver was doing something stupid but not
intentionally trying to kill anyone; 'accidental' probably describes it
    well enough.

In any case, it sounds as if the driver did something that caused the
lorry to swerve and go through the central reservation taking the bikes
    out.

A *motorist* has been arrested - not a motorcyclist. Actually a BMW car
    driver.

  8. Happened to someone I knew, years ago.

Head-on, with another bike, whose rider was overtaking when he
    shouldn't.

The bloke I knew had survived the Herald sinking, and all.

    But you probably know best.

Think it was in the paper today that the police were confiscating
mobiles and cameras from people in cars who had been taking photos of
the crash, sick fuckers (not the plod)

Really? Using what law to seize private property?

    Smells like BS to me.

Well, at least Inzamam's got a decent alibi this time.

Well, they certainly couldn't legally stop someone with an NUJ card, but
I can see how they would stop members of the general public from doing
    it - legally or not.

Whether they actually did or not, on the other hand...

You're pretty much on the money. It so happens that I've been talking
to my mate with the Harley (yes, /that/ Harley) tonight. It seems
that a bunch of blokes he knows, part of his old Chapter from Essex
and some mates, were riding round the M25 at the crack of sparrowfart
    en route to France.

The driver of the silver BMW was travelling the other way, on the
opposite carriageway, when he suddenly and for no apparent reason hit
the brakes hard. This caused the drivers of several other vehicles to
brake or swerve and the artic driver anchored up, locked up, jacknifed
and crossed the central reservation. Sideswiped the group of bikes
    and that was that.

I'd accept that the group of bikes were travelling within the speed
limit, prolly doing 65 in the middle lane. behind the guy on the V-Rod
who my mate knew well. Before they knew what was happening and with
no chance to do anything about it, they were mashed by the artic.

  16. I'd suggest the police have absolutely no right to do this, and if on
tried to conficate mine, I'd wave my NUJ card and tell him to **** right
    off.

Saw that on teletext this morning. Aparrently something happened in
one carriage way causing an artic to cross onto the other, into a
    group of five bikes.

What chance have you got when doing a steady 70 ish and an artic
crosses the barrier at about 50 in the other direction? Effect is
bike hits lorry at equivilant of 120 or so,

Ouch and commiseratons to the families. Hope the car driver (assuming
they have correctly id'd the cause) gets done big time.

  18. They have no right to do this. In addition they have no right to demand
    that images be deleted.

This has been debated elsewhere and it is completely and utterly beyond
police powers - even if they add in the words "terror" and "terrorism"
into the sentence 100 times over.

something daft or simply reverting to the 'natural' side of the road for
    them.
