I recently purchased my first bike (CBR250RR) and even more
recently moved to Maryborough (QLD). I will only be here for
a few months, but I would like to ride while I'm here.

Does anyone know of any good rides in this area? The sunshine
coast is a bit far away at about 2 hours ride, that's the only place
    I can think of.

Is there anyone in the approximate area that rides, are there even
any rides that are organised from here or somewhere near here?

    Thanks muchly.
    Noel.

No but can you keep your eye out for a cheap house on a hill overlooking the
ocean for me to retire to?
(One that costs $50,000 and fetches $250 a week rent, if you don't mind.)

We've just been discussing your investment history, Clem ...
it'd only subside into the ocean (or maybe burn down, then
sink into a swamp which subsides into the ocean)

Hiya Noel, try the road through the forestry out the back of Granville that goes out
to Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach, not the most exciting ride but nice scenery and
it'll get you out of town for a while.
There is a nice ride out near Tiaro too if I can remember where to go. I'll think
about it and get back to you.

There's not much ocean near here. ;)
Try Hervey Bay. Just remember that they don't believe in traffic
lights over there, the place is littered with round-a-bouts.

    Thanks Doug,

I used to work in Tuan and drive along the long straight road
out the back of Granville to get there. I'll check out the road
to Rainbow Beach sometime later this week.

As you exit Tiaro (heading south) there are a couple of turn-
offs to Bauple. I reckon one or two of those roads might make
for a slightly interesting ride. Is that where you were thinking?

The thought of riding anywhere near Tin Can Bay without being forced to by manner of being trucked there in a
MOG sends shivers down my spine.

Thanks, the Tuan State Forest, whenever I visit the family in Granville that's the
way I come in, turnoff before Gympie and follow that road in, it's a shame they
regularly had speedtraps along that road, could be a nice "quick" trip otherwise. :)
Sounds vaguely familiar. You could also try the road to Bundaberg, the turnoff near
Childers and go in that way, haven't been that way for several years but it used to
    be ok.

  18. Actually, Hervey Bay/Urangan/Torquay/Pialba is shaping up as a pretty good fit!
Ahem.... How's your mother then Jules?
You know; some of those retirement villages can be just like holiday resorts......

  19. She's been there 3 weeks, and has managed to piss off the Tandy boys, the
local home-delivery pharmacy, the scooter shop (no, she doesn't need one,
there was one in the house I had to get rid of), the Jim's Mowing guy, the
regular mowing guy, the termite man, the community nurse and the cops.
She's managed to score herself a prowler... accused the very nice
Harley-riding [1] neighbour - "he was in Vietnam, they're all crazy you
know". Well, that was last week, this week he's her best mate... She would
rather let the cats starve to death than get off her arse and drive the
all-of-500m to the local supermarket. She can make a quick trip to the
supermarket (when we drove her there) last 3 hours, and get overtaken by 90
year olds in walking frames as she dodders around with my step-dad's walking
stick that she has no idea how to use, fakes the old wobbly legs for
sympathy, then spend 4 hours after dark digging in the garden. (this
'playing for pathos' schtick was wearing thin 20 years ago...) She would
rather rip up the garden and demolish the barbecue than actually unpack
anything - the house is still full of boxes, including all the
non-essentials like cups, plates, bathroom stuff.... I fully expect, since
she fell down the steps (supposedly...) that she will have demolished them
next week, and be using an old plank to get in/out of the house. Apparently
in her language 'do not, under any circumstances whatsoever' means I will
change my mind in five minutes.

And she's too young for a nursing home... (curses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

BTW if you're serious about looking for property there, get in now, the
    price rise has just started.

Thanks for letting me have a little vent.... you can pick your friends, but
you can't pick your relatives. She is truly an appalling woman.
