Plod has just told me that they're sending him a NIP for careless
    driving. Result.

Oh, and the car is insured to a different address to the one he gave
me, but he is at least fully insured, apparently. Good news.

What will be interesting now is to see what Essex Dad decides that his
son ought to do. I devoutly hope that he sees reason and coughs up
privately, because if he does, I'll simply drop everything.

    Sod. That.

Back when it happened, or within a day or two, yes.
But now that they've had a verbal at you AND put in a claim against you?
Not a hope. Not least because they may still try and proceed with that
    claim...

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they have spoken to him, then
decided to do this based on his attitude.

  6. If attitude was the criteria, there wouldn't be too many here who
wouldn't be posting from a flowery dell.

    Well, that's if they're making one. I got the impression they/he were/
was, because he told me he'd reported it to Plod and blamed me for
    everything.

I don't give a stuff, actually. All I want is me Beemer smartened up
again. I've actually won another set of panniers on Fleabay because
the one he hit is so battered it may be too expensive to repaint (it's
not actually smashed, mind). They're not colour matched (the CM ones
are utterly unobtainable) but they'll fit and they were only £185. I
say "only", but new, they're twice that.

Christ alone knows how much the CM ones were, when available. I'm
quite happy just to keep 'em as a spare set, actually.

And then there's the mirror housing, which is glued together now and a
bit abraded :-/ New ones are about £80 in primer. I've replaced the
glass (£22). And the bust pannier frame (£38). That just leaves the
small scuffs on the fairing to sort out. There appears to be a small
one on the other side as well: I do remember bouncing around inside
the traffic lanes like a pinball, so I expect I clipped someone's car
    in so doing.

I told Twatty I'd take £400 as a settlement, if he wanted to settle
privately and let me fix it. Pointed out that main dealer rates would
be a grand, and independent specialist £700. If he's any sense, he'll
take that now, but I rather suspect his old man will want to do his
Rottweiler bit. "I just want ter protect my boy..." sort of thing.

It ripped off the rubbing strip down the side of the door. I'd be
surprised if it didn't put a few scratches in. I was lucky, because he
opened the door precisely as I was passing, so it was a glancing
impact. If he'd opened the door right in front of me, it would have
been much more serious and probably rather painful.

  13. There is not colour matched ones as such, they're just painted lids and any
    paint shop can do this?

You'll find that the surface of the painted lids is different - the one
on the regular lids is slightly rough whereas the one on the painted
lids is smooth so you get some actual gloss. Not sure if you can sand
down the unpainted lids to get the same effect.

  17. As Timo says, the lids are completely different, with a smooth high
    gloss finish.

It's not a bloody rim shot though, is it? It may contain one, in the
midst of a load of other shit. I know it's pedantry but this is UKRM.

  19. Fark, yes. As I pointed out, a door on edge is a rather solid, dangerous
    object.
