Just fielded an interesting call from Plod. Seems that he was only
aged 17, and had only just passed his test. Marvellous. And at that
age (under 18) the details have to be passed to something called the
Youth Justice Team, who decide whether or not to prosecute.

And apparently they think it may not be in the public interest.

Nice Plod says that they've given him a bollocking and pointed out the
error of his ways. I have to admit that his extreme youth does just
change my perception slightly. OTOH, I can't help thinking that
letting him off the hook may make him think he can continue to drive
like a prat because he's fireproof.

Oh well, I'll call his insurers tomorrow and relay this, and reiterate
that if they don't cough then I will absolutely pursue a civil action
(which requires a lower standard of proof anyway). From what they've
done so far, I believe that they'll see sense in accepting my offer
    for a swift settlement.

Plod added that they were surprised he hadn't taken up my initial
    offer of a private settlement.

Hohum. Life is never easy. Thoughts, anyone?

I thought he opened a door whilst you were filtering. Nothing to do with
    driving at all.
I remember my first crash as a young inexperienced driver. The guy who's
Volvo I ran into kindly accepted my offer of cash as reparation. A small
sum for the tiny dent in his bumper and a large sum for a drink down the
    pub to forget about it.
He probably still thinks it's all your fault.

  4. That is exactly my thinking.

I'm calling his insco tomorrow. I gave them 14 days from the date of
their engineer's visit to accept my settlement figure of £400 "and I'll
    touch in the scratches myself".

He visited last Friday, so I'll remind them of my offer and that it has
a week to expire. It'll be their expensive bad luck if the bloke I wrote
to has chosen to go on holiday.

I'd be slightly less demanding given his age, but as Plod aren't pushing for
a court hearing, he's already got off fucking lightly. Nailing his arse
through the insco will get right up his dad's nose though and maybe he needs
a dose of aggro from that ****?

Get what you can off Plod and take him to civil court.

It's togs bike, they can't do **** all. They can suggest things, but can't
    do anything.

I would just nail the **** now, he's had his chances.

  10. Yes, agreed.
Well, as I've said elsewhere in the thread, I've made my offer of £400
to his insco. If they don't take it, then I'll see them or him in court,
and I'll be asking for a shedload.

I already think that the modest sum I'm asking will be at least equal to
the loading on his next premium. Silly bastard should have taken my
offer of a private settlement, for the same amount, while the going was
good, but I *bet* his Dad was urging otherwise.

  11. That's about it. My own insco[1] rang today, asking if I was claiming on
my insurance and then going after him, and I told them (as I did right
from the start, that with an excess of £300, no way was I claiming, but
I didn't want them to close the file just yet.

OK, maybe not but no way id let him away with it, he needs to be shown
you cant get away with this just by being bolshy!

Plod are arses too. I got knocked off by a young lad a few years ago
(me on main road, he pulls out of a stop and T bones me) and the cops
    decided not to prosecute!! Bastards.

Theres a reason Beds Plod are always low in the league tables!
Mind you, they do store their takeaways better than Cambridgshire Im
    told.

    Yep, it's the only way.
No doubt about it. Looks more like Dad's the Twattiest of the two anyway and
he's the one who'll be paying the premium. Daddy will probably stop the
little shit from driving his car then too.

Hopefully when the dust and insurance company have settled, TOG will drop
Twatty Senior a thank-you note containing his own thoughts on the matter?

  16. Funny you should say that. I was planning to do just that.

Something along the lines of: "I have thanked your insurance company for
paying out so promptly. They, the police, and the engineer who inspected
my bike all said you were stupid not to accept my private settlement
    offer.

    Have a happy premium increase."
