Wow, at 95 rwbhp my CBR600 is something really special then.

  2. I'd like to know where they found this Harley with the 'macho roar'.

Whole thing's a ginge anyway - recall the discussion here last year
about leccy bikes and the video links discovered to various Yankee
backyard dabblers who are doing impressive things with golf cart /pallet
truck motors and NiMH /Lithium batteries.

Of course, unless it's being done by somebody in academia, it's not
    happening.

Always stuck me as incredibly unfair that Arts grads didn't need to know
anything about science, math or engineering because it was grubby. But
Science, math and engineering grads had to know about literature and the
    arts to be "rounded" individuals.

    Sounds fine to me.

Anyone who knows nothing about literature and the arts is a philistine.

    It looks 'normal':

I've said it before: everything I have read in the press on subjects I
am well versed on that the average chap isn't (unions, railways etc.)
    always contain fundamental inaccuracies.

I assume reporting on any other subject is also as flawed.

about natural philosophy and the sciences is also a philistine.

One recent article headlined Dawn as a "Hadron Lecturer".
    Me too.

  10. Hi there
A G50 or Manx takes around 7l. That's how far my experience reaches.

I think I need to check some energy-density calcs.
Might be interesting. But given the fact that an electric motor has far
better efficiency 1 lap should not be out range!

    Bye,
    Tilmann

  11. Hi there

Now correctly calculated: My G50 took around 5 to 5,5l. But far slower
than 100mph. That's how far my experience reaches.

  13. They're using the same motors as the one in the Guardian article
(though it claims 43 bhp/motor and the best I can see on the manufacturer's
web page is around 24 kW/32 bhp). They apparently have efficiencies >90%
over most of the power range. That's still a few bar-heaters' worth of heat
    to shed per motor, though.

There is not a simple comparison between petrol and electric motors.
An electric motor can produce its max rated power across almost its
entire rev range whereas a petrol engine can only produce max power
    at around max rpm.
A series wound DC motor can produce enormous torque at zero rpm, making
    it a somewhat dangerous beast.

Worse, they get into positions of power and make decisions on, say,
energy policy, while knowing worse than nothing about how it all

There seems to be a quite scary amount of anti-science, tree-hugging,
religion motivated, indoctrinated, politically motivated, denial bollox
around this millenium. Anyone would think the age of enlightenment had
    never happened.

Refuse to accept the scientific method? Well no SUV, TV or antibiotics
    for you, then.
