Trying to choose between a Deauville and a Pan Euro

    Hi there

Getting back into biking after two years (when both my wife and I got
    rid of our 600 Bandits).

Thinking about getting a single bike for commuting and to do some
    touring.

So - should I get a Deauville or a Pan?

Neither of us are on the small side and so am wondering if a Deauville
would be big enough - seat wise and power wise.

Also - with getting back into things after a break am a bit nervous of
a realy heavy bike like a Pan.

SO - any and all help very much appreciated.

So - not officially a Honda owner - yet - but hope to be so very
    soon! :D

    Thanks and take care

    Mike

I've got an older Pan (1100) that I bought specifically for two-up, as
I've never really liked taking a pillion. It's the best bike I've ever
had for two up - yes you still notice HOTB but only just.

The weight for me hasn't really been an issue - you only feel it when
pushing it around (or she gets on when you're not ready - DAMHIK) Once
you are -just- rolling, it's true what they say, the weight just disappears.

  3. A 48 BHP bike won't get you anywhere quickly... Get the Pan! Probably
    worth the extra outlay.

  4. Get both. Then you can flush the Deauville (shit) down the Pan.

Just kidding. I think you should broaden your scope somewhat. Of the 2 you
mention, the Pan would be the obvious choice if you're big pie eaters and
need to go up hills as well as down.

Well the two Plod riders I know are now riding Deauville's where they used
to ride Pan's. Both have NOTHING good to say about the Deauville apart from
"It's lighter than the Pan". Not a glowing endorsment of the Deauville.
    I doubt it.
They're only really heavy when they land on top of you. Don't drop it and
    you're sorted:)

    Hiya

I have also been looking at BMW for a possible tourer - but a lot more
    pricey than a Honda.

Anyone any suggestions re: other tourers.

    Thanks

  8. And less reliable, to boot.
    Triumph? Guzzi - ie: California?

    Anything but a BMW.

I'd rather hack my own testicles off with a slow running angle grinder
than own a BMW. Buy a Pan Euro.

I was probably talking crap in hindsight being that I have never ridden a
Deauville, they always look the part though.

    What part?

The part of the dull and unworthy little brother trying to cash in on
his much more capable elder sibling's success.

Dullvilles are garbage and bought by dull people who haven't had the
benefit of good advice. They see Honda on the tank and assume it's a
good bike - it's not, frankly it's shite.

Just for the record, I would like to state that my Pan set my blood
pumping quite nicely[1] on the B656 this evening.

And I'd just like to add a quick "Hello" to the vinegar-faced harridan
who was frantically signalling "40" from the pavement on the entrance to
St Ippolyts. That road was safe at 90 ten years ago, and it still is
today. If you could drag your atrophied piss-flaps up anywhere north of
your knees, you'd probably recognise that. But, given that the last fun
you had was in 1947 when that
girl-next-door-who's-no-better-than-she-should-be had a case of the
crabs, and you were the first to tell the vicar, I wouldn't really
    expect you to understand.

    Thank you.
    This is true.

[1] My blood pressure is now apparently 130/81, which pleases me as much
    as these things can.

Does it have to be Honda? Personally I wouldn't fancy touring on a
Deauville or commuting on a Pan.

I go into work on the Wing regularly. I have to be a touch judicious about
filtering, but otherwise it copes admirably.

Quite so. Actually, the Pan is a pretty good filtering weapon, except in
very tight traffic. I've done that "Oops, breath IN!" thing a couple of
times, but it's better at it than I am.
