    <VBG>

Mate of mine called his Italian landlord and said he could hear "beef
    fat" in his radiators.

He'd looked up 'dripping' in his dictionary :)

... Cue one very confused Italian bloke !

Normally one would say "espèce de connard" which literally means
    "species of wanker/bastard"

However, I misheard this the first time. So the first time I got cut
up, I called the bloke a "species of duck" which raised an eyebrow.

  5. Oi!
    Oh, OK, point taken.
    How far from the narrows?
Look, they're trying to get away from 'oop norf' as quickly as
possible and don't need you getting in the way.
OK, so a long way from the narrows.
They're cunts and a disgrace to the profession.

FWIW, if a car indicates, and if its safe, I'll let them in / out or
    whatever.
If they don't indicate, especially coming off a slip road to the
motorway (and many don't), they don't stand a chance of getting let
    in.
Most have no idea what happens if they hit the loud pedal, i.e. the
car accelerates in to the gap. Most panic and hit the brakes. Which
leaves me shouting "Wrong pedal, Fuckwit!"

I'm certain that 90% of car drivers do not realise that trucks are
    physically limited to 90kmh.
So if they don't want to be hasseled by trucks, they should drive
    faster.

    Cab proposed
Pretty much what I noticed when driving around the Peripherique
recently. Another thing I wondered about is why do bikes seem to travel
in packs? Is it that they get caught behind the bike filtering slowest,
or is it some (sub)conscious safety in numbers thing?

I suspect you are omitting the bit about zipping past all the 1 mile,
800yrd, 600yrd, 400... etc markers where all these trucking bastards have
been patiently queuing to get through the lane restriction and then
expecting them all to be jolly nice and let all the "clever" drivers back
into the flow of traffic [1]

[1] ICBW but it seems to be the norm for most car drivers

If I am wrong please accept my apologies )

I first clocked the signs at about a mile and misread them, thinking
they said lane 1 closed, so moved into lane 3. Realised at about 800
yards when I saw another sign.
As if me doing 120 or so is going to hold them up for long. Point taken
    though.
Yup. 99% of them are polite and have good road manners.

I suppose it was a matter of luck that I'd come across about 6 bad
tempered ones in a row all at once.

Not as if it was busy either, light traffic, 1am-ish.
Sounds fair. I wish a shed load more drivers knew what the orange bulbs
    on each corner were for.
Really? I suppose the continental/irish trucks hammering along at 90
    kinda confuse them.

See gap that I could fit in, just.

Indicate left, wait for vehicle at back of gap to give me some more
room so I can pull in safely.

Not what I'd call aggressively cutting anyone up?

    All over the place.

Some pull in way too early which slows the inner lane, others then push
past and try to jam their way in way too late which also slows the total
    flow of traffic.

If all lanes hold the same speed and just gently merge in the last 300 or
400 yards then the total traffic speed remains faster, unfortunately this
    does not happen very often.

The best example of this you will see is when a couple of trucks hold back
the queue jumpers and the traffic flow increases until they merge and the
    queue jumpers start again.

Ahh, I see where you're going wrong. Jude has the same problem. The simple
solution is: If the gap's big enough, you move into it. Whether the car
behind wants to give you _more_ of a gap, or not, has to be a secondary
    consideration.
Wherein lies your problem. A little more 'positive' driving is what Sir
    requires.

One man's 'positive' is another woman's 'aggressive'.

The first reason applies. It's always because there's some numpty at
the head of the queue that can't/won't move in to let other bikes
    overtake.

Though I think you're right in the safety thing though. Other bikes
behind the 'leader' will tend to be in a better saftey position. It's
not (IME) a subconcious thing though.
