I found the following below in the Geedunk & Scuttlebutt discussion group on
the Swift Vets and POWS for Truth website. I copied and pasted it. Maybe it
    will be readable.

I found this on a blog and they invite sharing with everyone.

Also, let me point out the very last column on the above web site.
It features a list of items for the WOUNDED veterans also.

Please consider one or both of the ideas listed on these two places.
    Not much time for action.
    Thanks,
    Mary Ann

Finally, from a naval officer I respect a great deal, an e-mail on how to
aid wounded troops in the two weeks left before Christmas:
"Yellow ribbons tied around trees and red, white and blue
stickers on the backs SUVs saying "Support our Troops"
are things that make civilians feel good but do nothing
for the men and women actually in uniform.
    So please consider the following:

The number ONE request at Walter Reed hospital is phone cards.
The government doesn't pay long distance phone charges and these wounded
soldiers are rationing their calls home.
Many will be there throughout the holidays.

Really support our troops --Send phone cards of any amount to:
    Medical Family Assistance Center
    Walter Reed Medical Center
    6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
    Washington, DC 20307-5001

They say they need an "endless" supply of these -- any amount even $5 is
    greatly appreciated.
Walmart has good prices on AT&T cards, Sams Club is even better, if you are
    a member.
I am sure you would feel better about doing this, than to buy something for
    a third cousin,
that would find it on the closet shelf six months later, and wonder where it
    came from.

  2. Absolutely true and one of the best things you can do for them. Two
Waltzes ago, there was a list of things for each rider to bring back
that would be sent to the troops in Walter Reed, and I'm certain the
need hasn't changed. These were recommendations directly from the Chief
Medical Officer to the Rallymaster :

    Prepaid phone cards
Scratchoff Lottery tickets (unplayed, of course)
    Playing cards and poker chips
    Dominos sets
CDs/DVDs of anything, used is ok if it plays

    added for Texas touch:

Any form of real "Made in Texas" food in cans or bottles
    Texas apparel/clothing
Texas post cards for them to mail to whoever

Screw the politicians their affiliated whores, these guys and gals are
the ones who really got it bad and deserve the pittance any of the above
costs. Send it Walter Reed Hospital General Delivery, Bethesda, MD, and
put in a note that it's for any wounded soldier(s). It will get there.
