Bit of an anticlimax to the superbike racing tonight with Vermullen
beating Corser home in Race 1 only to have Race 2 called off by the
riders due to heavy rain and water on the track. According to report on
Crash.net Corser Vermullen and Laconi went out in the pace car to look
at the conditions and it was a decided not to race again. Corser
praised Vermullen for being a part of the decision making which saw him
give away any chance of winning the championship.

9 years between SBK championships for Corser. Does anyone know if there
has ever been a world champion who has won two championships with such a
    long wait in between?

A quiet night at work so I've been able to answer my own questions. It
has been done before. Swiss rider Rolf Biland won the Sidecar world
championship 4 times between 1978 and 1983, then 9 years later in 1992
won the first of another 3 consecutive championships.

Further to earlier post, i actually wanted Verm. to lose the
    Championship by 4 points.

In other words the Lanzi/Ducati victory in Germany last race was to
    cost him the Championship.

But alas the Ducati trained Corser IS the 05' Champion fair-and-square
[He could have been multiple Champion if he did/nt waste years riding
    that Foggy shitbox]

Bullshit anyway,. Race-2 SHOULD have gone ahead, even @ 5km/h.
Nanelli on the 749R managed ok race prior!

Was up watchin it, it was like the Island with puddles everywhere, but
    they werent small.

They would have been aquaplaning everywhere, someone would have got
hurt, as seen in the 600's, there were some great flying W's...

Naah; there's not many whose careers even spanned 9 years at the top
    levels!
That German 250/350 champ is my best bet.
[google google] Anton Mang; but he only did 6 years ('82 350 to '87 250).

Yeah, guess Craprilia shouldn't have gotten rid of him
How are Ducati going this year? They seem to be losing

So I started wondering what's the longest anyone has gone between drinks
as far as wins, not championships goes, and the winner(?) is (just in
the 500cc/motogp class)... Phil Read, who waited 3200 days between his
first and second 500cc wins... but he won over 30 125cc and 250cc races
in between, so forget him and the honour goes to the next on the list,
Mr A. Barros, who waited 2463 days between his first and second wins...
(and as it happens he's well up on the overall list with 863 days
between his two most recent race wins).

Umm .. I seem to remember Troy riding an RC30 to an Australian Superbike
    Title in 1993.

Alex Criville must be up there a bit too.
His first 500 win was about 1990 and he must've waited a few years for the
    next.
    [google google]
Hmm '92 to '95 (dunno how to do the fancy number-of-days thingo but it'd be
around 1000 so way less than Barros.

    Thanks Nev,
I'm surprised Capirossi is higher than Criville. (And I didn't know Jack
Findlay ever won a second 500 GP!!)

Ahh OK; I was thinking just from FIRST win to next; not biggest gap between
    wins.
Capirossi's first win was in 1996 and second was 1998 but his biggest gap
    was 2000 to 2003.

Alex Criville has a greater gap between world championships

    125cc World Champion - 1989
    500cc World Champion - 1999
