Looks like Norton America have run out of dosh and won't be doing the
new Commando; surely one of the Asia motorcycle co's will buy the
design - the latest rumour to hit our editorial desk, Triumph are going
to buy the Norton name and do some sporting twins!

You mean, that tarted-up warmed-over design that dates back to 1949?

    Why??? "Latest rumour" my arse.

Someone took Rover, so it seems fitting.

There'll be a good reason why the Japanese never put a copy into

You think you'd be able to make it run longer than, what was it?, maybe 30
    minutes?

Didn't Ford mess with the concept for years? ISTR the Orbital engine
that never saw production was a stepped-piston two-stroke....

It's not as though the Japs are particuarly adventurous when it comes to
    weird n' wonderful engine configurations.

    Do what?

    Singles - vertical, horizontal, sloping.
Twins - flat, V, parallel, tandem & vertical.
    Triples - V & inline
    fours - flat, square, inline & V
    fives - V
    sixes - flat & inline
    rotary.

So what weird 'n' wonderful configuration have they missed? Radial? The
Brits did a wonderful example of that :)

The Italians have done V6 & V8 bikes and the Germans did a flat triple
but I can't, offhand, think of any engine configuration[1] used by the
Brits that wasn't also used by the Japs.

    Bob

[1] except for that bonkers radial & the distinctly bizarre Wooller
    twins & fours.

Didn't Honda make a six cylinder 50cc racer in the Sixties sometime,
that revved to something ridiculous, possessed ten gears, and had a
power band of about 50 revs?

No. Suzuki made a 3 cylinder 50, but never raced it in GPs (the rules
    changed) - 19bhp, apparently. 14 speeds. RK67, iirc.

Honda had an inline 5 cylinder 125. Yamaha a v-four.

It has occurred to me that this wanker showed up shortly after the last
troll (whose name I now realise escapes me) submerged. You know, the one
who said he'd show up at BOSM... That one.

*Anyway*, I reckon it's him. Again.

Assuming it had a drum selector, just imagine the stop falling off and
going from 14th gear to first ...
Ah thanks. I knew I was sort of on the right track with the idea of
    outrageous small Jap multis ...
These other machines you mentioned must have been hair-raising, and
I think I'll spend a while trawling the web for more details.

I was given a book recently - words as well as pictures - it talks of a
    Suzuki RS67 - watercooled 125, 2-stroke, v-4, 42 bhp @ 16,500 rpm with a
12-speed gearbox. First race in 1967.
