I had cause to be at my local dealers today and had a look at one in the
    flesh.
It's smaller than I expected and I liked the look of it.
It does look like it's wearing safety glasses though.
I may well have a test ride on one I think :)

So will I, as a possible replacement for the Versys in about a years
    time.

Trouble is, the specced up Tiger 800 I want adds up to nearly 10 grand,
whereas my Versys cost me about 6 grand with all the bits that makes it
    what it is now.

Bike prices seem ot have gone stupid in the past couple of years, I
can only assume it's because our exchange rate is in the shitter.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I suspect Triumph spend a
lot more on the quality of the finish judging by what you've said about
    the rotting Versys.

I'd fucking hope so, the quality of the Versys' finish is fucking
terrible. It's going to cost me about 100 quid to get the warranty
replacements for the nasty bits powder coated. I'm putting in yet
another corrosion claim this weekend, before the 2 year warranty runs
out. From there on it'll be my bike for another year, then I'll be
looking at buying a new Tiger 800 in March 2012.

I'm going to see if I can give one a test ride when the weather
improves a bit, what with pidcocks triumph being a few miles away. I
prefer the look of the 800XC with spokes though, but that's also
    eleventy million miles tall.

That's my problem too, the XC is stupidly tall but does look better. I
wouldn't buy the XC even if I could touch the floor cos I don't ever
intend taking it off road. The only time the Versys goes off road is
    when it's on campsites.

I was due to test the Tiger 800 and 1050 at the weekend but cancelled when
it turned out that the roads were covered in grit and it was freezing cold
and drizzling. Whilst perfectly rideable in, it wasn't ideal for testing
    2-up suitability.

The xc is indeed high, with the top of the saddle in line with my hip, and
even the standard one leaves my feet waving

You should be ok with the height as long as you can get one foot down
when you stop. Just develop the technique of getting on the bike by
using the footrest as a step-up and taller bikes are easy to ride.

We'll have you out on a weekend jolly before too long.

Hmmmm - the CBR600F has a lowered seat for a 5'5" girl to almost flatfoot it,
but maybe ot your style in the one true goth colour.
I have the original seat so the lowered one is for sale seperately.

Ah, that's what you meant by "specced up". Or should that have been
    "spicced up"?

Light bikes are; heavy ones (especially top-heavy) less so. It only
takes a small camber/patch of gravel/forecourt diesel to see you topple
past the point of no return when you're dealing with 240Kg.

It's never happened to me with the Tigers, but has happened to lots of
other people on the Yahoo Tiger list. And I saw it happen right in
front of me once when Rich stalled as he pulled away, but not until
after the front wheel had climbed up onto the drop-kerb at a carpark
exit. That extra inch of height was enough to defeat him.

Dangerous dogging. Prolly safer with the ICQ Cougars.

I've got very good at deflection after watching over 80 episodes of
House over the last couple of weeks.

Heh, you too eh? We've just got into House and are watching it season by
season, backwards. Currently on season 5.

That's a somewhat weird way of doing it, given the fact there's lots of
ongoing stories not just a bunch of unrelated episodes. The transition
from series 3 to 4 is quite important, so I'd stop & restart from
series 1 if I were you.
