I just had one. Not above minor fettling myself, but it's a new bike and I
wanted to maintain the dealer service record for the next couple of
services at least. I didn't expect it to be cheap (the most comprehensive
service in the schedule), but was a bit knocked back by the bottom line:
£430. The only 'outside the service' work was a new clutch cable which
strikes me as a 10 minute job if the bike's in pieces anyway.

Labour 5 hours, including the clutch. I can't find an online resource that
will detail Triumph expectations of labour time for services, but this
    seems high....

Oil (4 litres): £31.60+ VAT ie £37. This strikes me as taking the piss,
particularly since they put Castrol in it and not the Triumph recommended
Mobil 10W/40. How much do dealers pay for oil in bulk? - because I think I
could buy it off the shelf in a 4l can cheaper than this.

Comments? I'm narked and would like to know if I have good reason to be.
Dealer name withheld for the moment.....

Oil is stupidly cheap when dealers buy it in bulk, especially if they
are on a deal with the supplier to use their oil exclusively. All
dealers I know will charge top whack for oil used at service time. This
is a bit of a rip off when they are getting it so cheap and it's one of
those things that has to be done to keep a FDSH. I used to wholesale oil
to dealers so am aware of what's involved and the mark ups.

Argue the toss with them, and at the same time get retail prices for the
same oil from other sources and throw those at them to help your case.
Tell them straight that they are paying comparitavely next to **** all
for it and you aren't happy at the mark up.

  3. The 24K service is the large one. When I phoned round several dealer
they all said 'ah the one you need a mortgage for'.

Mine on the T595 was far closer to £500 so yours doesnt seem too bad.

But you can get a cheap BMW 3-series for twenty grand, so I see your
    point. Tear 'em up.

    JHC Adie.
The 60k Inspection service on my 7-Ser cage was cheaper than that by well
over a ton. None of the services on my 996, including the new belt service,
    came to anything approaching it.
Complete and utter usury. Where is JC when you need him.

Ferger's oil charge is about par for the course if they used synthetic
though. Some shops just use cans rather than buy bulk synthetic.

So how much would they have paid for 4l of oil decent synthetic Castrol?

    That's a - bit - reassuring. I guess I'm just annoyed that this a bike
that's already been through a non-Triumph delaer a month ago, when I bought
it, and hence has new pads and discs, tyres, has been greased everywhere
anyway. Can't see that this should have been a difficult service for
    them.....

Can't say, all depends on the dealers litreage per year and the current
price of Castrol fully synth, plus whether he stocks any other brands of
oil or lubes. I don't know current prices, but they are nowhere near
    what you paid.

Can't say, it varies so much. I never sold Castrol either so have no
idea of prices, I just know it will be nowhere near your price.

  11. Ive not had a big service come in under £450 yet and Ive had the 24 &
36K ones. the cheapest small service (ie the 18, 30 & 42K ones) Ive
    had was £175.

I would have told you which dealer I had them done at but the new
owner [1] has just taken the documentation. My garage will shortly be
    bikeless (

[1] sob but he's promised me visiting rights.
