Triumph fairing arse

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Aug 30, 2004.

  1. Months ago I bought a Triumph Trophy top fairing section and screen on
Ebay, because it was.... er, cheap. Like 50 quid. I mean, a new screen
    blade is ukp60-70, I believe.

I just thought I could maybe swap the screen over, keep it as a spare,
whatever. It was the same colour as my Trophy (dark blue).

Anyway, it arrived via the ukrm Underground Railway (tm Platypus)
    yesterday.

And **** me, it doesn't fit. The screen blade, that is. The top fairing
section is actually slightly different, with the screen hangled more
sharply towards the rider. My Trophy has a subtly different top section
which sites the screen more vertical.

What this means is that I can't just swap screen blades over - I have to
swap the entire fairing section (yes, all the mounting points are the
same). Which means removing mirrors, headlight (and to get at that I
suspect the rest of the fairing has to come off), and Gawd knows what
    else.

Oh well. I'll hang onto it, I suppose. If I ding the existing fairing,
on it goes. Or maybe stick it back on Ebay....

I didn't know there were two different top fairing types to the bug-eye
    Trophy. Did you, Platy?

    Yours looks like this, yes?

    Mine looks like this:

with the flip-up at the top of the screen, and the hand-deflectors down by
the mirrors. That's why I suggested you should take it for a run at Chepy,
to see the difference the screens made.

There also seems to be another version:

Wait till the TC realises that Oldbloke and TOG are two different
    people.

  5. Yeah, that's right.
    Interesting.

It was impossible to see in the Ebay pix which exact one it was - I just
bought it, erm, because it was cheap. For 50 quid i've got myself a
spare top section. It'll just take a bit more time to fit, as and when I
find a tuit. The idea wasn't so much to experiment with screens as to
have a nice shiny hunk of Triumph plastic in reserve, against the day
    when I ding it.

Yeah, but when you ding it, the top fairing will be the only bit to survive
    unscathed.

Well we all know that you're a sensitive soul, judging by your
rattle-throwing responses here, and more importantly that you can't be
arsed with niceties like snipping irrelevant text etc.

You'll fit in well, you will...
